Dennis Martinez was their #1 and he was 41
Not one starter made 30 starts
Nobody pitched 200 innings
Not one pitcher who started a game had an ERA under 3

The 1995 Cleveland Indians were (100-44) during a shortened season. That 95' season started a special run in Cleveland. You have to remember, the Indians were so bad for over 30+ years...i mean shite, they made a movie about them lol. But since then, the Tribe has been a consistent winner. From 95'-01', the Indians were a juggernaut, winning the AL Central every year. Kenny Lofton will forever be my all time favorite Indians player. Ill never forget him stealing from 2nd base to score on a pass ball. Guy was so fun to watch.
Here is a fast fact for you, did you know since Terry Francona has been the manager of the Indians, they are the winningest franchise in baseball?

Glavine getting the benefit of a ridiculously huge strike zone in Game 6 of ‘95.
And Jose fricking Mesa
But yeah the rotation in ‘95 was old. The top two starters were Dennis Martinez and Orel Hershisher at the tail end of their careers.
Vizquel deserves to be in Cooperstown. He is the best defensive infielder of all time. The years he was paired with Robbie Alomar were special to watch. If he played for the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs etc he’d already be inducted.

They also blew up the roster after 95

Their record was almost 10 games better than what it should have been based on runs scored/allowed

I didn’t know that, but it doesn’t surprise me. Francona is such a great manager, but is kinda taken for granted at this point. I think he’s the best manager in baseball in last 20 years. Him or Bochy. Both should make the Hall pretty easily imo.
And those 90s Indian teams were really fun to watch. I saw his pic, but nobody has mentioned Carlos Baerga yet. That dude could rake from both sides of the plate in his prime. It seemed to just be a 4-5 years, though, as he fell off a cliff. Had to look it up, but Robbie Alomar didn’t get to Cleveland until ‘99 and only played 3 seasons there. It seems like he was there longer.

I’m surprised nobody has pointed out the elephant in the room which is their ownership being cheap. If Cleveland had re-signed Belle and didn’t trade away Lofton before the ‘97 season, they beat the Marlins in the World Series and might have even beaten the Yankees in the ‘98 ALCS.

Us Tribe fans are used to it by now. It actually pains me that they haven’t won a WS since 48. frick...just give me 1. The two Game 7 losses were both in extras also. Absolutely, gut-wrenching shite.

Jacobs Field used to be absolutely rocking back in the day. Constant sellout crowds, booming economy in Cleveland. The 90s were some good, simpler times.

In 97 Belle provided a 116 OPS+ for the White Sox, Giles provided a 112 for the Indians that was not the issue....
While as Lofton was worth a 119+ OPS with the Braves and Grissom a 83 OPS+ with the Indians.
However David Justice and Jim Thome more than made up for the difference as the players they replaced they destroyed. Thome 156 OPS+ vs Franco 124 OPS+ and Justice 158 OPS+ vs Murray 83 OPS+
So offensively they were better in 1997 than in 1996 and 1995

The Braves, Yankees, Orioles, etc. we all pretty damn good too. The first two in that list were arguably historically good.
The one that got away was obviously the loss to the Marlins in 1997 after beating both the Yankees and Orioles. That was their year to win it.

Is that year still worse than blowing a 3-1 lead in 2016?
Indians ran out of pitching that year. Losing Carrasco and Salazar cost them. They win that series in 5 games with both of those guys available to start.

I remember him hitting 2 home runs in the same inning in 1993, one from each side of the plate.

They did??? That 1995 season was just the beginning of the Indians run of dominance over the AL Central!!
1995 - (100-44) 1st
1996 - (99-62) 1st
1997 - (86-75) 1st
1998 - (89-73) 1st
1999 - (97-65) 1st
2000 - (90-72) 1st
2001 - (91-71) 1st
How is that blowing up the roster??
