Testing positive for COVID when not tested

I will 1st say that I have not 1st hand knowledge of this but have heard it several times from people here in Memphis.
Has anyone heard of this?
Some of the testing centers (hospitals) have lines that have been as long as an 8 hour wait in your car.
I’m guessing they get your info pretty early I don’t know but I’ve heard from a few people, who heard from others that people get in line and decide not to wait while in line and leave prior to getting a test.
A few day later they get notice they have tested positive.
Any credence to this?

If you can die in a motorcycle crash and have it registered as a China Virus death it stands to reason that you could never have China Virus and test positive.

It seems like they would verify info before proceeding, so this seems unlikely outside of gross incompetence by location.
At our doctor for basic blood or lab work I get walked a few doors down by the nurse who hands orders directly to lab employee in front of me, and they still always make me verify some personal identifying info before starting.

I actually know two couples from different areas in Alabama that this happened to
They went to get tested. Filled out paperwork. Realized wait was astronomical so they left.
Got a call a few days later from the testing site saying they were positive.
I don't understand why people can't believe this. It's what happens when you attach bonus money to positive tests

I generally take it as Facebook rumor mill and I’m a Covid tough guy even. However, nothing would surprise me now. Medical field people claiming one thing then denying it the next day. Nobody has a damn clue but oh you better listen to me because I work in the medical field!

EDIT - And I do 100% believe this has happened to people. I just haven't heard it from anyone with any first or even secondhand experience, so it is stupid.
