Boycott sports events?

I love sports
Played when young then transitioned slowly into being a fan as I aged
I love sports, the training work necessary and the beauty of competition
I was taught you should only concentrate on competition and inside the boundary lines
Athletes trying to make political statements are concentrating on stuff outside the boundary lines and not on their competition
These new political statements that are threatening to be made if sports starts back up are a different game than I was taught and played. It’s just different and not the same athletic event I was raised with and know up til now.
I’ve always known politics taking a break for sports events but if that’s going to change then it’s a new ballgame and I don’t like watching people disrespect my country and me just because color of my skin. I don’t like another race exalted over another race and it be done in my face at a sports event I paid to see
So most likely I’ll turn off and not pay to watch, study and enjoy sports if athletes submit and make racist and political statements disrectful to me and my country
And I’ve watched sports for about 60 years
Never though I’d have to stop
Sad

I've been boycotting sports since 2017

I doubt there will be much to boycott.

No NFL or NBA for me and the colleges wimp out like OKIE State did f$%k them too.

Politicians, celebrities, athletes, and just whole lot of people in general, have the disease of conceit. They think it is their right to preach to everyone else. how to think. They really think they are that important, and social media has made it worse. It's really screwed things up.

I dont know about boycotting, I am just not personally interested in watching or giving them my money.

I hadn’t watched Sportscenter since before the pandemic hysteria started. I turned it on the other day and they were showing footage of protests and a partial clip of Donald Trump saying “I’m a nationalist.” Immediately turned it off.
A lot of sports fans are betas so I don’t believe the political propaganda will have a devastating effect like it should, but I don’t see how ESPN/NFL/NBA won’t lose money over this. When you shite all over your fans there are consequences

quote:This will/would be my 60th year also. I am pretty sure that I am done with it. I had stop watching pro sports when the fools started their kneeling shite, so college won't be a big deal. Lots of folks are feeling the same
And I’ve watched sports for about 60 years

If I turn on sports on Saturday/Sunday and I hear politics, I'm out.
It's that simple.
It's that simple.

Like it or not, I think what we will learn this year is how we can survive without sports. I am a 20 year season ticket holder so I love sports in general but people are too reliant on sports and sport figures.
It may be a good thing for both sides to realize how non-essential they are to our real lives

Agree.

Krauthammer was right..."get your politics wrong and it all goes bad from there".
It's easy to understand how athletes who excel and are worshipped in their community, are forced by public challenge to take a stand re the dysfunction and hurt in said community. The Marxist have exploited this dynamic; it's their strategic MO.
Until people admit and address the problem of Fatherless homes, with all manner of pernicious childhood effects via music, culture and psychological hurt...nothing will change. It'll get worse, as the Marxist pit Races and Classes against each other.
A 'competition' is coming...but it won't be fought between lines. Or with Rules. Nothing new under the sun.

I have dumped pro sports from my agenda. College sports are hanging by a thread. Any more of those sanctimonious virtue signalling messages that each sport issued a month ago and I am out. It was all hypocritical and self serving
I really expect to see college athletes continue to push the envelope with kneeling for he anthem, possibly demand the Black national anthem be played, end zone or sideline messaging and on and on. Expect a message to be played on their behalf during each quarter. The announcers will be coached to make comments during the game to support the cause.
The athletes may demand the NCAA allow them to wear their message on the uniforms like the NBA. If denied the NCAA will be labeled racist. This will allow the NCAA to self - flagellate and tell the world how they " listened" and now understand the error of their ways. In this historic moment they will suspend their rules because they understand the importance of black lives matter.
Meanwhile hundreds of young black men are shot and many are killed every week in the neighborhoods which these college athletes call home. Its infuriating how feckless this country has become. We cannot stop it, but we can slow it down and send a message.

I canceled my NFL Gamepass and I usually go to 1 or 2 games a year either in the US or UK and I will not go to a game or watch this year. Keep preaching how bad America is when you get millions to play a game. Will my loss contribute to the league going under? Probably not ,but I am betting enough people will tune out to make them sweat.

My opinion: You have to cut out buying the products of their advertisers and sponsors as well.

The politics of the sports and entertainment fields have now publicly and outwardly merged into this leftist/Marxist group for which I do not care. Makes my decisions pretty simple.
I agree with the sentiment that they are non essential entertainers for whom there has been given too much weight.

I live in Germany so not that hard to do ,but the bulk of their money comes from TV Revenue. So you don't watch advertisers pay less and their revenue goes down. Not going to the game takes money out of the owners pocket.

I guess “politics” will be LSU fans’ excuse for leaving games at halftime this year.
Posted on 7/13/20 at 7:07 am to Little Trump
I’m done with professional sports. LSU is on life support. I’m just going to support the sports at my kids’ high school.
