I would assume most are not arguing that a healthcare environment is probably the most effective place of reducing viral spread.
The CDC has outright admitted in their current documentation they do not believe the wearing of mask outside of a healthcare setting provides enough assurance that we are preventing spread.

The only people who should be tested are the ones having symptoms.

quote:This is anecdotal, obviously, but I have a position that allows me to work in and around facilities that are most susceptible to this virus spreading. Nursing home and nursing home-like settings. Early on, when the CDC said masks werent effective our organizations masked only the staff. The virus got into one of our facilities and it spread very quickly. We began putting masks on the residents and the spread slowed very significantly. At some locations where it hadn't got in prior to when masks were used for all, it has been nearly a non-event. There is a study being written for publication in a peer reviewed journal. I am not an author so I don’t know the details of publication.
when you say that you have seen 1sthand that they work, could you give more details
I am not advocating mandatory masking. What I am saying is that if you want the economy to open, if you want the jobs to return, voluntarily masking will help. It will put some of the politicians at more ease. It can lead to a quicker economic recovery and a more likely Trump November victory.
NCTiger is a conservative physician who shoots straight on this topic and is very much in the know. If he says it about this virus, I believe him.
I want what's best for everyone who has suffered as a result of the virus and shutdown. I want this to be over as quickly as possible. I'm not commenting on the fatality rate or the prevalence of infection. We'll figure that out a couple years from now. I'm simply saying that I'm convinced the masks reduce the spread.

Thanks for the info. Now I can make my own decision
I'm not up for fighting my own side of the aisle.

But that is not what you said, you said in a absolute factual way. Generally speaking, these masks have no real effect and in some cases could actually increase the exposure of items which are infected. A typical environment the masks are most probably more harmful, but the devil is in the details.
No, the masks are not any real help, if you feel like it does... go for it. Some people might actually think their comfort blanket helps from experience.... that doesn't make it so.
I would suggest you take a chemical and bio/germ warfare course - you'll figure out very quickly all the steps that necessary to drastically reduce the chances of exposure. What you will figure out is you can't live anywhere near a normal life.
This virus can't be stopped even with 100% quarantines... meaning no contact, no one in, no one out. Masks don't make any noticeable difference.

voluntarily masking will help
No it won't and under this situation there is no end to it.... so what's the point. The same thing stupid people were saying in March when all the rest of us said you'll be back in lock down as it doesn't serve any purpose.
YOU CAN'T STOP THE VIRUS, if you are scared of the virus... stay home. Nobody cares if you stay home.
All you are doing is recycle the same stupid shite we already know won't work on a large scale.

Is mask-wearing the only mitigation measure taken at these facilities?
I don’t know where you are, but much has been made about how/where Covid positive (present and past) nursing home patients have been handled.
And so I understand - every person, patient and staff, is masked every minute they’re in these facilities?

I've seen people pull their mask down to sneeze.

Very intelligent rebuttal

Respectfully, I am skeptical about what a lot of my own countrymen say about this and particularly so about foreign governments. I think it is safe to say there has been a large large amount of dishonesty being wielded by people with bad motives. I have been a guest of a local hospital and a frequent visitor to another. I have asked staff a lot of questions particularly about this supposed pandemic. Call it anecdotal or whatever you wish with the staff but neither one of these facilities knew what the hell the media was talking about. I am convinced this is nothing but a political weapon and a lot of you even well-intentioned have turned into hand wringers for no good reason. Believe what you wish I’ll go with what I see

No you can't, it either has to burn out or vaccine.
Let me guess they stopped the flu as well? This has a higher transmission rate than the flu.
Humans can't stop this by using masks or social distancing, or any other nonsense.

bingo. all these tests are ridiculous. Especially since its a fact that people who get tired of waiting for the test and leave are then sent a letter stating they are positive.
when they never even took the fuggin test!!

What amazes me is that the number of cases we have today is likely the same amount we had in March. The only difference is that we have the testing capacity now to prove it.
Exactly. That is why they are now finding out that New York has damn near reached herd immunity.
There were a few million people shuffling around NYC spreading this virus everywhere for 2-3 months, and the only ones who knew it were the very ill who got tested.

We shouldn’t be testing asymptomatic people who aren’t part of contact tracing.

Governors are mandating that
Not Kemp.
quote:
Gov. Brian Kemp's office said Thursday that mask requirements adopted by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and leaders of other Georgia cities are “unenforceable” but stopped short of threatening legal action to block them.
“Like all of the local mask mandates, Mayor Bottoms' order is unenforceable,” said Kemp spokeswoman Candice Broce. “We continue to encourage Georgians to do the right thing and wear a mask voluntarily.”
