Notre Dame is in the on deck circle, calls start to ditch 'Fighting Irish' nickname

Daniel Morrison of Slap the Sign, Notre Dame’s Fansided site, has launched a campaign for the university to consider changing its nickname. At a time when the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians are taking serious looks at their identities, it only makes sense that this should fall under the spotlight, too. But is it warranted?
In short, Morrison argues that, in spite of many people embracing the Fighting Irish moniker, it’s rooted in negative stereotypes of Catholics and immigrants. He also gives historical context: Irish people once were looked at in the U.S. with the same prejudice that other minority groups are today. Thus, stereotypes were born. As one can see from the aforementioned professional franchises, there’s a long history of those in this country, and now, people are trying to undo what their forefathers did.

Oh my God who the hell cares?
Also, I was told there would be no slippery slope once the officials capitulated on confederate statues staying up

I thought it was a given that the Irish always get drunk and want to fight?...

Don’t tell an Irishman that. He will put down his beer and fight you over it.

How about the Overrated frickers?

I suppose selectively they forget about what the Irish went through on the early years of this country.....
This is the biggest issue facing this country in a since. They do not teach the true history of this country anymore. The Chinese had it as bad or worse than the Africans did building the railroads.
That falls to the side bc you know....BLM!!!

I fricking hate Notre Dame.
Hate it.
Would not shed a tear if a hole opened in the Earth and the entire campus was swallowed up.
I have Irish ancestors.
This is fricking retarded.

Unlike Morrison, I like my Catholics fighting and Irish. It reflects a time when they gave a damn and had pride in what they believed in.
I’m honestly surprised they didn’t take the, “it’s non-inclusive” angle

Italians were severely discriminated against in this country at one point. I. Demand. Reparations.

Hell, the Irish are lazy-boozing, brawlers who will shirk work and go on the dole at the drop of a hat.
It's my heritage and I rose above it well, at 30.........something.

They won't change, because white people aren't as fragile as everybody else.

We've had black people as our mascot going back at least thirty years or so. That actually isn't particularly unusual for us, and a lot of black Americans have some Irish ancestry, anyway.
This particular mouthbreather who wrote the article is a 2019 UMass Amherst graduate. We've already been through this rigmarole, and the university and alumni were adamantly in favor of keeping the nickname.
