All depends on their training. I have a beautiful Rotty that is a big ole baby. My Brazilian Mastiffs will eat your arse up if you make the wrong move towards me or my family, or on my command. All in the training.

This.
What makes a good work dog for protection or otherwise is intelligence and loyalty. Sometimes other traits like endurance are required but intelligence and loyalty are always required.
That's why so many German breeds are selected like German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers. The Germans are perfectionists and have always been good at getting peopl...err, dogs, to follow commands.

Agree - we had a Doberman in our dog obedience class, and it was a nice dog and very smart.

My Doberman is a whimp. That little dog I got though... If he can get some jump in there he may not kill them, but they wont reproduce again.
