I expect many others will join him.

I don't really care either way.

Is there a certain timeline for players to either opt out or opt in?

Asking because I still want to squeeze in a fantasy league and should set up our draft appropriately.

so he's foregoing a partial year's salary to earn a fully guaranteed year's salary later?

He will be a free agent next year, so he is walking away from a prorated salary of 5.5 million this year

Leake is the only player in the 21st century to go directly from the draft to the major leagues.

win, win for Diamondbacks

he would of been lit up like an xmas tree in that park, with more games played/pitched,

he started 10 games and gave up 15 homers, for fricks sake, 40 starts, 60 homers????

he was going to make 15 million, LOL And frick you Mo'ron for giving this guy that asinine deal years ago.

Leake just got year #10, starting at age 62 he gets at least 220K a year in pension. He could start drawing retirement at age 45, but it would be a reduced amount.

quote:

“It’s a goal of everybody who comes into the game to get fully vested, get your 10 years in and ride off into your sunset,’’ said Philadelphia Phillies reliever Tommy Hunter, who’s in line to get there next season when he finishes his current two-year contract.

The tangible benefits of putting in 10 years of service – with a minimum of 172 days on the active roster or disabled list as the annual requirement – are significant even for players who earn millions of dollars a year.

With an asterisk.

He did play in the AZ Fall League in between.

Zimmerman opting out makes sense and was one of the most likely ones in the league. Let him ride off into the sunset with his newborn as a WS champ.

Anthony Rizzo, Carlos Carrasco, Jon Lester, Daniel Norris are a few I know off the top of my head who could sit out and still get paid

Is Chad Bettis still in the league? He’s another guy that recently got over cancer.
