I’ve never once in my life failed to return a shopping cart

Under this Theory we in trouble.

I 10000% support this theory.
I remember hearing a theory years ago that said you can typically judge the success of a society based on how they follow social contract type rules or basic rules like simple traffic laws. This seems to follow in the same vein and I think it's accurate.
You can see this in practice in any border town along the Mexican border. It's extremely common to see people take up 2-3 parking spaces in the parking lot. Some people will even go farther to put their empty cart in a green space or open parking spot than they will to put it in the corral. It's mind boggling.

I usually return them but will occasionally leave them in a spot where they won’t pose a hazard to vehicles or pedestrians, if it’s convenient.

I’ve been seeing This regularly on FB since the whole lockdown. This is nutshell left wing thinking. If you don’t meet a certain standard you’re not worth self government and we need to govern for you. Scary

If others are leaving them like this, I'm likely to do this. If they're all left in the return area, I'm more likely to bring it back there.

Never looked at it that way. Proud to say I always return my cart.

My wife does our shopping.

Always return them. Since I was little many moons ago and saw my elderly grandmother walk a cart across several rows of cars with me in the cart return it. Along the way she told me only lazy worthless people would leave a cart that might damage someone else vehicle.

If I don’t bring it all the way in or to the corral, I generally try to put it in a spot that’s out of the way, yet easy for the store employee charged with corralling them to get to.

I’d have no issue deporting people that don’t return them. Check out your local Walmart parking lot. I wouldn’t miss many of those folks...

I worked in a grocery store as a bag boy and often had to go retrieve carts from the parking lot. This sucked when it was hot as hell. I always bring my carts back, because I remembered how high school me hated it. “Do unto others...”

I use a cart inside the store. But I leave it there after I check out.
I look like a sherpa walking out.
I drive a truck and love being able to just set the bags in the bed and drive home. (I live about 1/4 mile from the store).

When I moved to New Orleans I was suprised to see how many people didn’t return their carts to the corrals. When I moved to Pensacola it was amazing how everyone returned their carts, At the time I attributed it to being a military area and people took responsibility.
This goes along with litter as well, I find it amazing that people can’t carry their trash in their car until they reach their destination.

So you're a sheep. No shocking news there.

I always return them, and while I walk in to shop, if I pass a cart, I'll grab it and bring it in instead of grabbing one at the front door.
