I agree and I'm on the side of the Southerner. The American Empire ruthlessly crushed the South. I find America in 2020 to be an absolutely degenerate place where the worst people in the country have the most power and swiftly are taking away anything "normal" in their attempt to overthrow civilization.

Why?

Lord Acton was very worried about the increasing centralization of power in the west, and he believed, correctly, that this would result in societies where personal freedom was very limited.

The Confederacy was the one contemporary state which pulled in the opposite direction. So while it was a slave state, and Acton despised slavery as a moral abomination, he believed there was a good at its core.
