Just listened to the press conference from our state superintendent for 24 minutes. I learned that “schools will be the same but look different.”

That was it. Thanks, Mr Politician!

I think (as of now) some Alabama K-12 school systems will be giving students the choice to attend in person or to take all classes online.

Yeah, that guy provided nothing of substance. I think the guidance will be in the documents they send out, and the individual school systems will use that to make their own plans.

Yeah but we knew all of that. We were supposed to learn today about students wearing masks or teachers wearing masks. Social distancing in the classroom. Contact tracing. Closings.

All they said was we might or might not do those things.

At least Louisiana gave a specific plan.

Yeah, that was a complete waste of time to watch that. Whole lot of words to say basically nothing.

I hope Madison City Schools goes back t normal and ignores the hoax doomsday predictions. With our new LOSER superintendent I doubt that though.

I mean, they plan for schools to open up to traditional learning and are empowering local school boards to make specific decisions based on what is happening in each district. That makes sense to me.

My neighbor is my kids superintendent, if he shuts it down I'm bringing my kids to his house.

Just got this email from our LOSER superintendent...

quote:

Today the Alabama State Superintendent, Dr. Eric Mackey, released his official roadmap for reopening schools this fall. Mr. Terrell and I have had the opportunity to review this plan prior to its release to the public.

With the guidance from the State Department of Education, it is clear that at the current time, we will reopen schools this fall. In Madison, we are planning on two avenues of educational services for this fall.

First, we will provide a school-based education option at each of our school facilities. This setting will utilize facial coverings, physical distance practices and sanitation procedures to protect staff and students on each campus.

Next, the district will provide a virtual education option for parents who choose a setting away from the school building for their student. This option will provide both a long range plan of education and a hybrid plan that will provide flexibility for students who may need to move from school-based to virtual due to COVID-19 outbreaks. Regardless of the option, all students will remain enrolled in their home school.

On Tuesday, I will assemble a Task Force made up of administrators, teachers, staff, parents and students to address the procedures and practices for each of these plans. One option we will discuss with the Reentry Task Force is possibly moving our student start date from August 5 to August 12. This change would allow additional professional development days for our faculty and staff to fully understand the new state virtual platform and the directives of separation and disinfecting from the ADPH. If we were to delay the start of the school year for students until August 12, it would not affect any of the other parts of the school calendar that have already been approved.

Our goal is to communicate our plan as expediently as possible with the new information we are receiving from the state. We would appreciate your feedback as we build this plan: School Reopening Survey for Families and School Reopening Survey for Faculty and Staff.

I know that you will have many questions concerning these plans, and we will do everything to answer these questions as we receive your feedback and meet with our Reentry Task Force.

We realize these are very challenging and uncertain times, and we appreciate your understanding as we work together to ensure a safe and successful school year.

Superintendent

One of the parents of a Prattville High School player tested positive for the Coronavirus and they shut down workouts for two weeks. This happened on Tuesday morning. I asked the head coach if they were planning on playing and he said he honestly didn't know.
