Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome says she wants her new Commission on Racial Equity and Inclusion to tackle the issue of removing Confederate monuments and renaming streets and buildings in the near future.
"We are in a season where people are recognizing symbols that continue to promulgate racial division and are painful reminders of our past as we try to live in the present," Broome said Tuesday morning during a live Town Hall with The Advocate's Executive Editor, Peter Kovacs. "One of the reasons I established our commission...was to ask people that serve on it to look at these symbols and painful reminders of slavery that exist and offer an approach to either rename them and look at statutes that may need to be removed."
Middleton, a former LSU president and Lieutenant General in the U.S. Army during World War II, has a troubled legacy that surrounds accounts that he tried to maintain segregation.
"I think the School Board made a wonderful step in the right direction," Broome said during Tuesday's Town Hall. "Id like to see us approach it holistically. But that we also make sure we're promoting, in this present moment, the removal of systemic racism in institutions that exists in our city and parish."

Oh just wait until her woke committee goes through the street list and tells her which streets they demand be renamed. I'm gonna say it'll be no less than 300

We already have a huge problem in BTR with multiple names on single streets. Sounds like this will just exacerbate that problem
Thought I guess Lee Drive could just become College Drive all the way to Brightside?

Bye bye Beauregard Town.
Even though it was named before PGT Beauregard was born... that won't matter.

Would she have any authority to do so if St. George is finally allowed?

Drainage issues
Garbage issues
Road issues
Crime issues
Yet she’s worried about monuments

It's all so ridiculous. We could probably trace back half of the names of the streets/buildings etc to some sort of confederate boogeyman.
Hell, my family has some ties to slavery in Mississippi. Should I change my last name?

Huey Long. Hell no. I will be out there for that one. My great aunt went to grade school with him in Winnfield.

What is more racist, streets named after presidents and Indian tribes or the people living on them?

Huey Long.
A socialist democrat bordering on communist who was regarded as very black-friendly... I think he's safe.

That's both sexist and discriminatory.
Sexist for obvious reasons.
Discriminatory for those limp dicks that have E.D.
