why develop an anti-black system when black people were slaves at the time?
Holy Moses. Have you ever read a single page of American history? The education and empowerment of the massive slave and free man of color population was the ultimate fear in the antebellum and reconstruction south.

It seems that way.
Where is the protest for the thousands of Blacks that are murdered every year across the county by other blacks?
Make no mistake Houston, New Orleans, Baltimore, Chicago alone could be close to 10k blacks murdered every year by other blacks.
But where is the outrage? Where is CNN, MSNBC, BLM?
This is where this becomes all political. The left always believes never let a catastrophe go to waste. More government. More redistribution of wealth. That is the goal. Not the well being of black people. Other than a voting base the democrats don't give a flying F about black people.

I’m not sure where this myth was fostered that because there are mass protests about police violence that no one cares about the violence in and among the black community. It’s a product of abject poverty which ties into what people are protesting at this very moment.

I think people would be glad to help ALL poor, and have that conversation. But they also want to see some personal responsibility from said poor and underprivileged. It's a 2 way street.

Are you proposing a majority of the cops are racist?
The poster asked for just a lil bit of accountability from the police departments. Is that too much to ask for? There are far more great cops than bad cops. The problem is when the bad cops violate policy or the rights of it's citizens, the are not held accountable for their actions.
The cops that shot and killed Breonna Taylor stated on the incident report they handed to their superiors that Breonna Taylor suffered NO INJURIES. How the held you shoot someone EIGHT times and say the person suffered no injuries? This is what the poster was speaking on.

Do you think they wake up and think, how will I ruin a black man's life today?
Far more officers put on the uniform and perform their duties to the highest standards and to the best of their abilities. They Protect and Serve. These are not the officers the movement is about.

Seems like more government - in the form of a militarized, aggressive police force - is the whole problem, and the subject of the controversy.

And as far as deaths go, statistics show that those police impact all races equally. They have been posted on here many of times

It’s an attempt to redirect the conversation from something uncomfortable but addressable (as police are accountable to the public as government employees) to something that does not ostensibly demand much action or responsibility from white people. It’s not necessarily a conscious decision to shift the conversation, I think that “but what about them?!” is a pretty natural reaction.

If I’ve missed it, has information outside of 2019 (specific to shooting deaths) been cited in these arguments? I don’t think that there is a genuine openness to a different conclusion, but after a cursory Google search:
USA Today Article re: 2013-2019
quote:
MORE THAN 1,000 UNARMED people died as a result of police harm between 2013 and 2019, according to data from Mapping Police Violence. About a third of them were black. About 17% of the black people who died as a result of police harm were unarmed, a larger share than any other racial group and about 1.3 times more than the average of 13%.
2009-2019 Analysis Article
quote:
Victims were majority white (52%) but disproportionately black (32%) with a fatality rate 2.8 times higher among blacks than whites. Most victims were reported to be armed (83%); however, black victims were more likely to be unarmed (14.8%) than white (9.4%) or Hispanic (5.8%) victims.
PBS Article re: 2013-2018 Analysis
quote:
According to a study published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences, over the course of a lifetime, black men face a one in 1,000 risk of being killed during an encounter with police, a rate much higher than that of white men.
...
Black men and boys face the highest risk of being killed by police–at a rate of 96 out of 100,000 deaths. By comparison, white men and boys face a lower rate of 39 per 100,000 deaths, despite being a bigger portion of the U.S. population.
