So put it in a museum so people who actually are interested in history will be able to learn from it. Nobody gives a shite what the LSU library is called. Nobody praised who it was named after. Nobody cared until the thought of removing a racist memorial was expressed and now all of a sudden a bunch of rednecks care about history.

more to that..i don't see germany having statues of Himmler, Goebbels, and Hitler laying about because its "part of history". The confederate monuments shouldn't be celebrated like they were. Put them in a museum.

That's where i draw the line. Pulling down presidential monuments goes beyond acceptable to me. judging a man that lived in the 1700-1800's my 2020 standards isn't appropriate

racist memorial

The memorial is racist? It supports the man's views on race that he held in 1961?

Or does it praise the actual good he did for the country, state, and school?

A line must be drawn somewhere, if not the slippery slope leads to everything being deemed evil/racist to do with this country, which then needs to be torn down...statues, founding fathers, the constitution.

You can not hold historical persons to the sensibilities of today.

It’s not a racist memorial. It’s a library.

I think you mean nobody cared until an old arse letter was dug up and now all of a sudden a bunch of snowflakes care about the name.

Most people don’t give a shite about who the library is named after. They are upset that people who didn’t know they were supposed to be outraged over a library name until 48 hours are now demanding that it be changed.

One would argue the fact they are placed around would encourage discourse. What are the chances many people who complain about the. Would make it to a museum. Or if someone from out of town traveling through would stop at the museum in every town they go to.

How many museums do you go to on a trip or vacation.

Leaving then out with the plaques and explanations I could argue would do more to remember the last and less likely to repeat it.
