One of Disney's best-loved rides is based on a film widely considered the studio's most racist.
Splash Mountain, a mainstay at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, stars the animated characters from "Song of the South," the 1946 film long criticized for stereotypes of "spiritual" black men and its seemingly nostalgic view of the antebellum South.
Fans want to keep the ride. But they're asking Disney to scrap all mention of the movie.
A number of suggestions have cropped up urging Disney to retheme the popular ride. The most widely shared one proposes retooling it for "The Princess and the Frog," the first Disney film to introduce a black princess. Some of them have turned into Change.org petitions.
The petitions come at a time when companies -- and the country -- are reckoning with their own biases and, on occasion, racist histories.

Disney gonna be like “great idea! Done! Anything else we can do?”

Remember when they were only coming after the confederate flag being displayed at the South Carolina courthouse? They'd never take it further than that.

We were at Disney last summer, I think, and the ride was closed, undergoing significant revision. They had already largely sterilized the ride, and I am not sure what the newest version was like.
The waterfall drop on that ride pulls the highest g's of any ride at Disney.
I am so grateful my children are old enough now that I do not have to go there again.

and some think that these Jacobins would never go so far as to burn books.

I would be shocked for this to happen.

This is craziness of it all.
Br’er Rabbit is a story from the oral traditions of the southern blacks.
It’s just insanity now.

What I have never understood is why people spend hard earned money on Disney's exorbitant prices. Universal and Legoland are just as bad.

Disney has a lot of money they can shake down as "contributions" to their organization

Not saying I agree, but the way Disney has been operating in the past decade, I can’t believe a change to splash mountain hasn’t already occurred.

Oh Jesus Christ....it never fricking ends. A beloved ride and staple of Disney World, is being labeled as RACIST and Disney will fold. Marxism is alive and thriving.

Disney might just do it. Sad to say. Even though it completely contradicts the theming of Frontierland.
Tony Baxter is probably bummed.
I doubt anyone associated with Disney would openly defend keeping it.

Was on it this past December, it was still the same as it was before.
