re: What is the argument for weed being illegal at this point?

People either forget or choose to ignore the support President Trump had from Republicans on his prison reform. They didn’t outright say they were decriminalizing weed, but the wording was obvious that part of the plan was to greatly reduce arrests related to marijuana.

The anti side is the pharmaceutical companies. The one that turns doctors into drug dealers because they get a cut for prescribing drugs. Legal weed woukd cut into their bottom line so they can't have that.
But the cat's out of the bag now with so many states legalizing it on the state level. Just legalize it federally and be done with it and stop spending so many resources preventing it.

If you want weed legal prepare to pay 50% more than you pay now dummy
Lol I would pay 100% more just for the convenience of being able to go to a dispensary and pick out whatever I wanted.
Edibles, all kinds of strains, all types of THC products, and the joy of not having to go to some bum’s apartment to pick it up.

I have yet to travel to a dispensary but I was under the assumption that it was cheaper as well.
Point stands I would still pay more for the convenience of it being legal

Don’t be surprised if it’s republicans running on a platform to decriminalize weed in 2024.
GOP should’ve been on this platform. It’s freedom. But as usual the GOP can’t get on board with something so common sense.
I know some special interest groups want to keep it illegal but I’m not sure if I know any individual who still thinks it should be illegal.

....do you understand a product of great demand is currently going into the pockets of black market dealers and it could be very easily something that could be going to new legitimate businesses that would be created? New jobs and new tax revenue, seems like economic growth to me.

Ha, you think weed is going to escape the "sin tax"? They are going to get every dime they can out of that shite.

This is the 3rd time this has been posted this week.

The current sales tax would suffice. Why would you be in favor of additional taxation? Seems like a good way to keep the black market, as you said, alive and well.

Got some and some edibles
Think I may hit them tonight.

True. I didn't catch that.

Yeah I dont understand this argument at all. Even the states where it is still illegal the black market prices went down a lot once Colorado and Washington legalized it.
And for the folks who says it's a "gateway drug" well the only reason it was ever a gateway drug was because you'd go to buy some weed and the shady dude you were buying from had some other shite he was trying to sell. At a dispensary it's just weed products, you go there to buy weed and all they have is weed and all you walk out with is weed.
There is literally no good argument other than "it's always been illegal so it should still be so"

When did I ever say anything contrary to this?

economic growth is not based on tax revenue generation
I think you missed my point

It’s 100% a “gateway drug.”
Just not for everyone and shouldn’t be used as an argument against legalization.

Louisiana needs a complete overhaul of our prison system. We incarcerate an embarrassingly high percentage of our population.
