Describe the state of this country if Chauvin gets off.

Granted it will hinge completely on using the medical report to establish doubt as to whether Chauvin's actions were the cause of death, but I'm not ruling it out at this point. But all that aside, how bad does it get if he does get off?
I live in the suburbs but I may move to the country if it happens.

Describe the state of the country if truth and justice are sacrificed.

It’s not like the trial is next week
By the time it actually happens it will be mostly forgotten about
Hell, what’s going on now has nothing to do with him now
ETA it’s not *like* the trial is next week

I’d laugh hard. Like out loud. Not just in my head.

I won't be surprised if the other cops get off. How are they an accessory to murder but not the people filming it?

I imagine the trial won't really happen until next calendar year
definitely after the presidential election
but don't forget that this will be a highly publicized trial... so when it does happen... all the news stations will be replaying the video of the incident and the riots that broke out b/c of it... lots of chances to rekindle those flames
the only question I have at the moment... will the judge allow cameras in the courtroom or not
ETA: this is all of course barring a plea agreement
also... I'm still gonna say the trial (if there is one) gets moved out of Minneapolis to another county halfway across the state
which could also seriously change the jury pool
I've pointed this out already... imagine the anger that will come out if this trial is moved to Todd County, Minn., a county that voted 70%+ for Trump in 2016, or a similar county

We will need a systematic review of how police interact with the public and how they protect their own. A police force is not a military unit in this country by design.

I believe my post may have been misconstrued. My point was that the truth should dictate the outcome, as opposed to reaching a result regardless of the truth. If we don't have truth and the rule of law, society will break down.

The distinction between murder and manslaughter is intent. To convict him of 2nd degree murder, the jury will have to conclude that Chauvin intended to kill Floyd, but that it was not pre-meditated. That is going to be tough to prove.
Manslaughter was a slam dunk that he serves several years in prison. Now I think it is 50/50 he is aquitted
ETA Skimmed your post and thought you were referring to the trial

Opposite OJ reaction
Except it will be burning cities as a form of artistic self expression

there have been other posts on this board that say Minnesota juries can convict on a lesser charge
ETA: for all I know... a bump up to 2nd degree may have been a ploy by Ellison to try to better his chances at getting a plea deal negotiated so this never sees trial (which would probably be best for the country as a whole)

He's not getting second degree murder. That by itself will probably set off riots.

If they can, Chauvin will go to prison. If it's all or nothing on murder 2, he's got a very good chance to walk away a free man. I'd say 60-40 he walks at this point.
If it's murder 2 or nothing, then the fault lays at Keith Ellison's feet. He's the AG that upgraded the charges to murder 2. Of course, there are many who are saying he did it on purpose hoping for an acquittal. Then we get more protests and upheaval, which is supposedly what he wants.

Negligent homicide is the most likely the slam dunk. It doesn’t fit the narrative, however.

There’s a lesser included statute I believe

I don’t see any way he gets off but I think the other 3 do. especially the one who was only on his third day on the job
I expect more riots then
