Slackster, keep it very simple for me, I live in Jefferson parish
1. When will it hit me
2. Will the winds knock trees down or blow shite around my yard
3. Will I flood?

Models shows a pretty extended period of 50+ mph wind gusts for New Orleans.

Here in Maurepas on Chinquapin we’ve had a few heavy squalls with wind...and some rainbows. Feelin’ pretty good right now.

Levi is great. Very middle of the road.
Middle of the road is a good way to describe him. He lays out the possibilities from each model, throws in only limited opinion, and explains things where they are understandable by just about anyone.
I hope he continues doing what he does along with whatever career moves he makes.

This has become a pretty elongated tropical storm, with the heaviest rain bands currently over the Florida peninsula, well east of the center.

am I reading this map wrong or are the hurricane hunters starting to find winds of at least 55 knots (> 60 mph)

That's flight level winds, need to extrapolate for surface winds.

ah my bad... I knew that

That’s flight level. They hand wavy adjust the numbers down to the surface.
But that’s the strongest winds off to the east of the center that will bring the strongest winds into the New Orleans area.

There's also no convection in the area. That's not going to be translating to the surface much at all.
