re: Skeptical on his arm talent? Brennan will make Ryan Clark look like a fool

Burrow was the greatest QB in LSU history and had the greatest season for a QB in NCAA HISTORY!
Brennan will most probably be way below that standard especially in year 1 but that doesn’t mean he will be bad. My hope is that Brennan is as good as year 1 Burrow.

Wrong joe said the offense was putting up 40,50 and 60.
Clark is clearly wrong here. I don’t know why he chose this moment to make a stupid statement when he has always been pretty good and supportive of LSU.

Myles will have to better than year 1 burrow if we want to make noise

Arm strength is only one piece of arm talent.
He didn’t say he has a weak arm.

People forget that Burrow was so good bc he saw the game similar to how Brees and Peyton did and his physical skills were good enough to make the plays. He could see what the defense was trying to do and adjust accordingly. He could tell if a Safety could cover over top. He could see when the defense sagged giving him good yardage running the ball. He could see soft spots in zone. He could sense the pressure and avoid it by stepping up or leaving the pocket.
We don’t know if Brennan can do any of that so we should be skeptical. This isn’t a Cam Newton situation where Brennan can come right in and physically dominate at the QB spot.

I get not trusting the coaches hype especially as an LSU fan because of miles nonsense but I don’t see Joe as someone that is just going to say good things for no reason.
Myles has the arm to win, we have the weapons to win

No doubt Brennan has the physical talent to win but so did Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings and Jarret Lee and Jordan Jefferson. With some people the light just comes on in the actual game and sometimes it doesn’t.

Ryan is just motivating the team

I will preface this with: I love ryan Clark! Bleeds Purple and Gold.
Ryan Clark also said he wasn’t impressed with Joe Burrow and that he couldn’t make NFL throws. He later said he was wrong in that assessment once Joe started lighting up the scoreboard. Love Ryan, Tiger great, loves the school and program, but he is a paid talking head now. Getting paid to make assessments and he will miss on some.

Ryan Clark doesn’t need any help looking like a fool. He’s your prototypical dumbass meat head jock.

Brennan needs to improve his touch! Has a rocket arm!
Posted on 5/23/20 at 9:28 am to Jack Crevalle
Comparing him to Joe will only lead to disappointment. He can be great in his own ways and lead our team. Having a mentor and friend in Burrow is going to make him better. Montana, Aikman and Brady all had weird paths to greatness as has Joe up to now. Let Brennan be himself and try not to crush him under comparisons to a guy who had one of the greatest seasons ever

In Clark’s defense, people confuse arm talent with arm strength. Brennan has a bazooka for an arm, for sure. He needs to show that he has the touch to drop deep balls into a bucket, time the back shoulder, release, catchability, etc...

Absolutely!
If Brennan can recognize the defenses in a timely manner, I have no doubt we are going to have another outstanding season.
He has excellent arm talent. He has shown that he has the arm strength, accuracy and timing to make the plays. He hits McMath on sideline, Dillon across the middle and they don't break stride.
Beautiful!

I think Clark is just trying to tamper down expectations on Brennan somewhat. What he is saying is don't expect him to the next Joe Burrow.
Not to mention that a stronger arm doesn't necessarily equate to a better arm. As there are a lot of other things that go into that like accuracy and throwing a more catchable ball.
I heard on a pod cast where Jack Marucci tracked all of Brennan and Burrow's passes and Burrow came out way ahead because Joe Burrow threw a much more catchable pass relative to Brennan. Thus, this spring before the pandemic hit, Ensminger has Brennan practicing to throw much more catchable balls. Hopefully, he continued that practice on his own during the pandemic.

Without question Brennan’s arm is better than average. Its not Jamarcus Russell, but is stronger than Joe Burrow for example (not a dig at Burrow AT ALL).
It depends on how you rank arms. In other words, what do you feel is more important. Arm strength or arm accuracy. Being able to throw 99 mph fast balls or throw more catchable balls.

Listened to the interview. He back tracked on his comments. It was a dumb take. Saying he's tired of the hype and he'd rather see it instead is legit, but saying Brennan doesn't have arm talent is just inaccurate. When people talk arm talent, they talk arm strength and how well they can spin it. Finesse, being able to read defenses, and go through progressions is not arm talent, it's QB development.
Also, if he thinks if this team is just hyping Brennan as part of an agenda, he has not been paying attention to that aspect since O took over. That was the past, particularly with Miles. O and the coaches have been wrong on occasion (example Giles), but they have been nothing but honest on their opinions of players as far as I've seen.
It's a bad take on Ryan Clark's part, but he's a true tiger, a hugh fan, and he's a great ambassador for LSU. He'll happily admit it it if he's wrong. I agree I'd rather see it on the field but if the current staff is high on Brennan, I'd tend to take their word for it based on how I've seen them operate.

He feels the need to play contrarian, even within his own fan base.

To be fair, we know how high of a character guy Joe is, so its not like he's gonna come out and say the kid isn't as good as him or he won't do well.
He's not lying , he's just supporting his teammates. Same for the coaches but they've been over the top with it.
