Is There Anything Worse Than Moving?

Currently packing up everything to move to a new place tomorrow. Excited for the new house and all, but damn if the actual move isn’t the worst experience. It’s amazing how much crap one can accumulate without realizing it.
Edit: we have movers coming tomorrow, so I’m just referring to the packing of things. Although moving yourself is much worse, I can attest to that.

I pay people to move me. Worth every penny.

Yea the unpacking seems to go on for months

I hate it but I know people that move every few years. When I was young and single it wasn't quite as bad but our last move was miserable and it was only like 10 miles.
I think we'll probably move one more time but I hope it's my last.

Not when you are excited about where you are headed.

I'm moving in a couple of months. Planning to have movers do most of the heavy lifting.

I couldn’t be more excited about the new place. It’s packing up the old one that I hate.

Moving tomorrow as well. Gonna just try to embrace the suck.

Yes, having to sift through the ashes of a burned down house. Or shovel all your flood soaked belongings to a pile at the road

Ok man. Damn. I realize in reality there are worse things in life. I’m just venting a bit. No need to get that dark.

We’ve moved quite a bit over the years.
What I’ve learned is to rent a dumpster for a week and place it in the driveway. Then we go through the entire home ..... “pack it, donate it, or dump it”.
It helps with minimizing the accumulation of crap. It also puts you on a timeline since you know exactly when the dumpster is being picked up.
It costs about $600 but it’s worth every penny in the big scheme of things.
Just my 2 cents.
Good luck with your move.

I haven’t lived in the same places for more than 18 months since 2012

God damn I agree. I don't care how much it cost, it's absolutely worth it.

100%. When we moved into our current place 6 years ago, I did the move myself. I swore that day that whatever it costed, I would never do it again.

Wait until you have a wife and kids.
I wouldn't have a dining room table that seats 8, 2 couches, that decorative pot in the corner with sticks in it that weighs like 90 lbs either if I was single.
