El. Oh. El.

LINK

quote:

House Republican leaders have started advancing a budget plan that largely mirrors Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards’ proposal.

The spending plans use federal coronavirus aid to close a $1 billion gap caused by the pandemic without deeply slashing state services.

The House Appropriations Committee rewrote the package of budget measures to account for the state tax and fee dollars lost because of the virus outbreak.

The bills would rebalance this year’s budget without cuts and would craft spending plans for the new year that starts July 1 with only modest reductions.

The committee sent those to the full House for debate without objection.

Again... we don't have conservatives in the House. We have a bunch of RINOs who just go along with what their Daddy JBE tells them to do.

Absolutely pathetic.

I am starting to think that if the gop became a socially liberal party but went hardcore fiscal conservatism, Louisiana would become a blue state.

Looks like we will finally get to vote on legalizing sports betting so they are not completely useless.

If anyone ever thought this wasn't the case then they were uninformed from the start.

What’s the problem with this? Are they raising taxes? If the Fed is giving money to states, we’d be foolish not to take it too.

most of the louisiana "republicans" were Democrats until they saw that being a republican will keep them in office.....

Most Dems in LA are socially somewhat conservative. What passes for modern day social liberalism (pro-abortion, anti-gun, LGBTQ "rights", etc) doesn't appeal at all to black democrats, which are a huge chunk of the total democrats in this state. Then you have another chunk of white democrats who are pro-gun and anti-abortion and are straight.

The "Mandie" wing of the party here is very small.

But errrrybody is fiscally liberal.

Last fall, even earlier this year, this board was full of people who said, ah, JBE winning is no big deal, because all these new legislators are so conservative! They love Trump! And we have a super-majority!

We tried telling them that wasn't going to work. It didn't.

You remember how we already voted on fantasy sports gaming, and then the legislature said, nah, we were just joking, and completely went against the will of the people?

Why do you think sports betting would be any different? They have designed this the same way... it will take a legislative vote to approve the rules, even if local parishes approve the concept.

Anybody who's ever taken a Louisiana History course knows...we don't have governors; we have Czars. The legislature is, at most, a rubber stamp organization. For the most part (with a few exceptions), it's always been that way.

This was always going to happen after Clay Shexnayder got a bunch of RINOs together and they went to JBE hat in hand begging for democrat votes to make Clay the speaker. This is the payoff for JBE.

Clay should be run out of Ascension for his betrayal.

Yup, but we so many posters who were butthurt that Rep. Abraham didn't make the runoff, that they refused to support The Biznessman because, they were sure that the legislature would stop any foolishness from JBE.

I'm starting to think that Eddie would have had a tougher time with this "super-majority" than JBE ever will.

It wasn't just 2019 they made this argument, they also made this argument in 2015 as well to justify voting against David Vitter even when the house was considerably less conservative.

It was a stupid and completely incorrect argument then and it's still a stupid and completely incorrect argument today.

We have a lot of stupid and emotional people in this state that don't make good decisions at the ballot box.

Brick and Mortar Bill for the title insurance industry to protect the wealthy Louisiana attorneys has advanced through the legislature too. Stupid fricking protectionist bill that is unconstitutional. Might as well make this industry subject to the flower license oversight board

JBE would not be available to help whip democrat votes to make a RINO the speaker and it would be politically untenable in the face of opposition from a republican Governor.

A conservative would be speaker but legislation would still be difficult.

First. Cucks gonna Cuck.
Second. The 1974 Constitution basically makes the Governor almost god.
Third. You play silly games and re-elect a tax and spend democrat, you get this shite!

You are correct but the fantasy sports gaming passed the House which was thought to be the more difficult of the two. Danny Martiny essentially filibustered the Bill in the Senate so they could not vote on it as pay back for torpedoing his sports gambling bill in the House. Not that this could not happen with sports gambling but this is much more lucrative for the state.

Don't look at me. I voted Doc in the primary, Eddie in the general.

I wasn't especially excited about either one, but I never lost sight of the objective: getting that wall-eyed, phony Honor Code bullshite-spouting POS out of office.

Unfortunately, too many others failed to keep their eye on the ball.
