Plans for Cabo have been deferred until later this year but still want to get out of Houston in early June. Flights from Houston to Miami on Southwest are about $150 RT per person for June 6–13.

Does anybody on here have insight as to what all is open/closed in the Florida Keys? We’ve never been and this just seems like a great opportunity to go.

FWIW, it will be me and my wife (no pics), we are both in our mid 40s. We will be bringing our two sons with us, 11 and 14. So we don’t plan on painting the town red, more so relax in the sun and detach from work and school...and hopefully enjoy waterfront restaurants that are open.

Also open to any hidden gems on where to stay anywhere in the keys.

TIA.

Keys may have stricter guidelines than the rest of the state

There is a Hampton Inn in Key Largo that is nice and usually reasonably priced. It is an hour from MIA. Key Largo is not much nicer than Galveston or the other barrier islands on the Texas coast. The water in Key Largo is not Brown, but it is not as blue as it is in the southern keys. You have to get further south in the Keys to get more of an Island feel.

The Keys are closed to visitors right now. They might be open by early June though.

We stayed at the Banyan Resort in Key West with our two kids who were about the same ages as yours. It's a charming boutique hotel with historic but updated cottages. It was in a great location ... close enough to walk and ride bikes to everything but not in a loud area. But I see that it's closed indefinitely, per the mayor of Key West.

There’s a Marriott Resort on the gulf side. They do have a two bedroom suite but pretty pricey. Pretty nice. Snorkeling and a cocktail by the pool is all available.
I stayed here twice with family of 4. It helped that I had a ton of Marriott points. Good luck.

Looks like you're going to be at the forefront of tourists coming back. Check the below link. Key West is allowing hotels to re-open on June 1 at 50% capacity.

My wife and I stayed at the Hidden Beach AirBnb last July and it was fantastic, I'd consider it a hidden gem. I doubt i'll stay anywhere else when we go back. We were able to walk all of Duval St. easily from here. It's waterfront with a private deck area right on the beach which we enjoyed in the evenings. Right next door is The Reach Resort and the AirBnb host provides an access card in the room so that you can use their pool and all the amenities. We also had access to the Casa Marina resort a few blocks over though we never ended up going there because we enjoyed the pool next door just fine.
