Anyone concerned that mask mandates could extend indefinitely and be a part of our daily lives even after a vaccine is developed or do you think the mask mandates go away for good once a vaccine is developed?

I think mask mandates and voluntary use die off on their own

Masks are used frequently in Asia and they haven't gone to a full-time masked society or whatever our chicken littles think is going to happen. Once people perceive the threat dropping, which is happening every single day, both imposed and optional mask wearing/distancing/etc. will decline.

There will probably be some resurgence, and then further decline, etc.

Governments and companies which try to mandate masks will be reluctant to enforce over time until they quietly just abandon altogether. This board thinks government is eager to enforce restrictions as part of some authoritarian crackdown, when the reality that they're terrified of having to try. Not because they plan to use force but don't want to, but because they have little to no ability to enforce this shite and don't want to get called on the bluff.

Because the majority of the people wearing them turn around and touch the mask to readjust it or take it off and on, then touch door handles, counters, PIN pads, etc.

If every single person on this planet was trained like a medical professional to use PPE, you might have a point.
But they're not, so it is nothing but a feel good gesture to make people feel safe. Period.

Exactly. At this point, it's only a show piece for making oneself and others feel better. It literally does nothing of value.

the chart the dude posted, it literally said homemade masks are useless.

It literally didn’t. You may feel that way, and read the chart how you want to, but it literally does not say that.

I think y’all are confusing a specific thread about wearing a mask with a general overall overreaction thread. I’m all with y’all on that. Search my posts, I think this is the most ridiculous overreacting ever. However, if the OP is asking about masks and whether they do anything as far as prevention, that’s an easy answer.

Unless y’all have some other evidence to offer?

You misspelled “months”.

Like covering your mouth when you sneeze or Saying:
Sorry
Excuse me
Bless You
Thank You

I look at it as a sign of courtesy. I have enough respect for others not to be blasting germs all around. However if others are walking around unmasked and disrespecting me then I take it off and say "frick y'all, come and get you some of what I got!"

I'm not saying it isn't a sign of courtesy. However that doesn't change the fact it's useless from a rational point of view.

Courtesy shouldn't define public policy. Reason and reason alone should.

I don't think it's useless as far as reducing the amount of germs I could be spreading. Condoms aren't 100% and they're not intended to keep men from getting pregnant but would you advise your son to go to the prom without one.

if it reduces, but does not prevent the passing of germs/particles, you can't say its useless

I'm not for masks at all, but to say they are completely useless is outlandish

Same reason why everyone is turning the experts into villians.

It's a form of denialism called
"Truth Decay".
Truth decay is the #1 threat to our nation.

Yes. The former is just as useless as the latter.

Even if this is all true, some people out of the group using it right is better than none. And even using them.incorrectly will have a net positive effect. I'd say you can't be this stupid, but you've spent weeks proving you are in fact this stupid.

This is the best mask analogy I've heard.
