Duck and Cover Advertisement from the 50s

Yes I'm aware that wearing a mask helps the broad spread of particles from being projected a far distance but this thought crossed me this morning when I was taking a walk and a woman with a mask around her neck quickly pulled it up when we got closer to passing each other and then as I passed literally yanked her dog over and essentially turned and huddled over as I walked past her to prevent her face from I guess being directed towards my face.

It made me think how duck and cover was sold to people essentially to pacify them because there's really nothing they could do and that's something that unsettles the general populace.

Yes. The former is just as useless as the latter.

The mask is to keep you from spreading it if you have it. It does actually serve a purpose. If you are more than six feet away from folks, No mask needed.

I don’t understand why people are so averse to wearing masks for a few weeks. It’s like the new Facebook argument.

ETA: This took like five seconds to find. Downvote away, but bring something to the table with it that shows masks make no difference. It is not “completely useless”.

Because it's nothing but a useless gesture to make people feel better?

Serious question:
How is it a useless gesture if you are an asymptotic or noticeably ill carrier and are wearing a mask and it keeps what’s coming from your mouth and nose contained to your person?

I knew you people would be weird about masks. You’re weird about anything that’s out of your comfort zone or different from what you know.

Or maybe that’s the recommended social distancing guidelines? Jesus you folks aren’t this stupid. Are y’all serious with this left wing CDC govt takeover stuff?

It's also an instant indicator of submissiveness to whatever the government tells them.

Guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends people stay at least six feet apart from one another, likely falls short because it doesn’t take fluid dynamics into account, Bourouiba says. She and her colleagues have documented a droplet from a sneeze traveling more than four times that distance. While sneezing is not one of the common symptoms of COVID-19, an asymptomatic person with seasonal allergies or a random sneeze could still spread the germ.

Because the majority of the people wearing them turn around and touch the mask to readjust it or take it off and on, then touch door handles, counters, PIN pads, etc.

If every single person on this planet was trained like a medical professional to use PPE, you might have a point.
But they're not, so it is nothing but a feel good gesture to make people feel safe. Period.

Anyone concerned that mask mandates could extend indefinitely and be a part of our daily lives even after a vaccine is developed or do you think the mask mandates go away for good once a vaccine is developed?

Oh I'm sure some governors and local politicians will try it.

The response from the public when they see other states or municipalities not having to wear them and all being perfectly fine should provide for some rather amusing television.
