This was filmed when the original cast was still there. Looking forward to this.
Was set for a theatrical run next year.

Me too.
There are so many Broadway productions I would pay to see via streaming.
Wicked
Avenue Q
Lion King

Loved it on Broadway. Actually got to see Lin in PR and that was very awesome. Glad others get to enjoy it now.

Will crash Disney+ for a couple hours.
In all seriousness, I got to see it with the Chicago cast (Cervantes is now on Broadway I the lead). It’s fantastic. But there will be at least one meltdown on this board over it.

It amazes me that no one has been able to monetize theater for remote viewing. Shows don't tour nearly expansively enough to justify it under reduced ticket sales, and the vast majority of people will never get to see the original cast.
I've seen Book of Mormon twice, will continue to see it when it comes by, and would still easily pay $20 to watch a recorded performance with the original cast.

It's not that they can't. It's that they choose not to so they can maintain a product with multiple runs, especially through outlets like Broadway Across America where they can charge $100+ a ticket outside of Broadway.
At this point, because Disney now owns those streaming/broadcasting rights, it makes more sense for them to release it via Disney+ since who knows when we'll be able to fully fill theaters again.

Seen it live three times (once in NY, twice in Austin), but will definitely be watching this on D+.
Amazing show

Hilarious that Hamilton is getting downvotes on every post in this thread.

I'm shocked they don't do this more often. It's not the same if you're seeing the travel cast, or the 14th revival even on Broadway.
They could make infinitely more money from these properties if they'd take this Hamilton approach.

Would they though? Cinemark shows "live" theater, operas, etc. I don't see that expanding.
For every Hamilton there are forty other shows on Broadway that aren't major draws for the general public.
PBS shows "live" theater on their Great Performances series. I don't think I've ever seen a thread on any of those shows in here.
Hamilton is a phenomena.

Would have been stupid as hell to release it in theaters anyway.

I also saw it in Chicago, during Wayne Brady’s run as Burr. As great as that show was, I’m looking forward to seeing it with the original broadway cast.
Phillipa Soo, who was the original Eliza, was a grade below me from 1st grade through high school. I wasn’t friends with her, but it’s exciting to see someone from your hometown achieve that kind of success and fame, and I’m excited to see her performance for the first time.

Lion King
The Broadway production of Lion King is incredible but it wouldn't be nearly as cool of an experience watching it on TV b/c there are parts where actors in elaborate costumes walk up and down the aisles and the way the set moves up and down to create mountain set pieces is extremely impressive. If you are ever in NYC I highly recommend getting tickets.

Saw it in London last year, and I need to see it again because so many jokes were missed due to heavy laughter. Awesome show.

Pence went to see it and the Aaron Burr actor decided to diatribe at him during the curtain call.
it was stupid.
that being said, i'd pay good money for the chance to live stream broadway performances on occasion.
