He is a proficient actor and singer, but he made sure to cast some of the most talented actors and singers on Broadway around himself. In many cases, he literally wrote the parts to their strengths such that it has been difficult to cast their replacements (Leslie Odom Jr, Daveed Diggs).

That makes sense then. Kudos to him for not undercasting to make himself look better during the performance.

My wife talked me into watching this. I went in to this with the intention of not liking it. I didn't like the Pence ambush which was affecting my opinion going in...

To my pleasant surprise it was pretty good. A good history lesson done in a clever way that was most entertaining. I wasn't bothered by the actors color. That's the way the play was written and cast so I fine. I'm not a rap or hip hop fan so the songs that were more traditional singing were more entertaining the the more rap-like songs. With that said, all of the music was good.

King George stole the show...plain and simple.

My sentiments exactly. I also think the liberals, media and even Trump made a bigger deal out of the Pence incident than it was. I’ve watched the videos of it and IMO it wasn’t that bad. Hell, even Pence said he wasn’t offended.

The first act is definitely stronger than the second. We watched it last night (had seen the Chicago production a couple years ago), and my interest drifted off in the back half. I was listening along but not watching for most of it.

Lin-Manuel is supremely talented, but he is certainly the weak link of the performers in the original cast. I do appreciate the humility of casting the best people, even if they outshine you in the lead role.

Meh, he was stale during emotional scenes and has terrible low-note range. I mean he did ok, but it makes me think there could’ve been someone else out there that could’ve played Hamilton much better.

I mean hell, the guy playing George Washington ended his solo number fighting back tears because his performance was incredibly emotional. I never once saw that from LMR

I thought it was really good. Some spots were slower than others. I'm not a Broadway guy, but I enjoyed it. The songs are catchy and some of the performances were awesome. I'm not mad I watched it at all.

As a whole that is true but my 2 favorite songs both come from Act 2 "It's Quiet Uptown" and "Hurricane." I listen to the soundtrack more times than I care to admit but I was a little disappointed in this. I was expecting more dialogue between scenes and not just song after song. I enjoyed it, as there were some song differences between this and the soundtrack, but a little disappointed.

There are so many Broadway productions I would pay to see via streaming.
Agreed. I think the key here is having captured the original cast. And they did a great job with the filming production. Something that has bothered me with the recent live performances on the major networks has been the video format and pulling in big name actors just for the sake of name recognition. Imagine if we had a film (like how they shot Hamilton) of Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith performing Wicked. Or the original Les Mis. I’d buy that up in a heartbeat.

I liked it just fine, but it was too long for my liking. Also I kept rooting for Thomas Jefferson and Madison.

Jackson's solo in the second act is actually a bit more emotional because this was filmed during the last week this original cast was together. So it literally was the "One Last Time" singing that song with that cast. I think the emotions of the scene and the real life fact intersected to create that moment.

I picked up on the emotion, but didn't realize this was his last turn as Washington. That makes it even more powerful.

I saw it on Broadway. Liked it a lot, but thought it didn't live up to the hype. Was glad I paid $230 for a seat and not thousands that some were paying---that's insane. The rapid-fire rap lyrics were very difficult to decipher live (should have listened to the cast recording with written lyrics ahead of time) so that also took away from the experience. Lin Manuel Miranda had left already when I saw it. I watched it on Disney WITH CAPTIONS which helped a lot. I still like it a lot but it's not in my top 5 Broadway shows ever. King George definitely stole the show--I LOVED him!!! His songs were hilarious!

Would they though? Cinemark shows "live" theater, operas, etc. I don't see that expanding.

For every Hamilton there are forty other shows on Broadway that aren't major draws for the general public.

PBS shows "live" theater on their Great Performances series. I don't think I've ever seen a thread on any of those shows in here.

Hamilton is a phenomena.

I wish they would do it for book of mormon

Daveed Diggs did legit work. I was impressed.

I know he created it, but I honestly thought Lin-Manuel Miranda was the worst actor on the stage. He did fine, but the other actors definitely stole the scenes he was in.

Helpless and Quiet Uptown are my favs. Kelly Clarkson does quiet uptown way better than the cast.

My Shot is pretty damn good too.

And now people are criticizing Hamilton
Further proof that you can never satisfy a group that exists to be offended.
