FFIX is the best FF I've ever played

It's regarding by a good bit of people as the best
If you look up best of lists it's routinely at the top.
I prefer VI and VII but I love IX

I bought IX a few months ago and have never played it. May play it after a XV replay after I platinum VIIr

I actually haven't played it. Looks like I can dl on the PS4. Does it still hold up?

No doubt the best IMO. My taste is clearly not the same as most here after the FF15 and FF7R threads though

It holds up for sure.
But if you are the type who can't get into some goofy looking characters you won't care for the art. That was already the case at launch for some.
The stories themes are not that way.
As for the PS4... I would not get it on that system if you have any other way to play it. PC (Moguri Mods/other mods) and PS3/PS1 are better options. The PS4 version is a port of the mobile version. Which is gross to me. It has huge menus designed for a touch screen. That may not bother you.

I spent a lot of time playing that on PS1. I miss the classic turn based combat rpgs like that. Also really like the settings and characters.

They fixed the menus on PS4. If you don't care about mods, PS4 is a fine way to play. I own it on PC, but PS4 is where I played through it. It's hard for me to play games like that on PC. It's much easier to veg out in front of a TV screen while you grind.

I’m not a fan of random encounter games but there’s a short list that have for me transcended that mechanic:
Pokémon Blue/Fire Red (nostalgia)
FFIV (GBA)
And...
FFVIII. As in 8. As in gunblades. As in Squall>>>Cloud

If you are into some of the classic RGP tropes (knights, castles, etc.) it definitely checks that box.
Also, FF9 has Vivi, so....

Just booted it up to see it. Much better.
Not as good as the original font but it is much better.
Probably the best way to play without mods now.
Since you can grind AP faster.

Zindane isn’t that great imo. All the other characters steal the show. The combat is soooooo slow and gameplay is mediocre. I felt as if I was a run away circus the whole time.
