Lester,
You’re missing that he’s the planned 2021 QB starter and this is a cheap 1 yr 2021 tryout

I honestly think it’s a good market value deal for a player like Hill. This isn’t a sign that he’s the qb. Imo a team would easily give Hill 8-10 mill to play his current role. TE, WR, backup Qb, wildcat qb.

Exactly. Saints caved because Taysom wasn’t signing his offer sheet.
Not the case at all. He had no other choice but to sign his offer sheet if he wanted to play and get paid next season.

All I'm saying is if you truly think he's your QB going forward, this isn't the time to kick the tires on a high production former starting QB. This is the year when he gets meaningful stats under center (shotgun, I know).

Isn’t $4.6mil cheaper?

That’s Tight End type money. Can’t find anything wrong with those numbers.
Huh? That would be top 5-7 TE money in the NFL.

He was just a RFA & no team offered him a contract lol

Underhill again:

This is basically a deal so the Saints don’t have to franchise Taysom Hill next year, and it saves them a little money when compared to the tag.

He’s saying we’d have to tag him as a QB, which I did wonder about

Hill has proven nothing as a QB yet. A smart team should have an insurance policy in a year when they are in a Super Bowl or Bust mode.

Would be silly to think they would have to franchise him. There is likely no other team in the NFL that sees him as a slam-dunk starting QB.

Kindof my point. We had Teddy last year so it wasn't all on Taysom. Brees goes down again, Hill stepping in full time for any extended period of time wouldn't go as well as last year..........if I had to guess.

For clarification, I'm all for signing Winston for 1 year.

No but if another team did want him for more than the saints were offering and if we value him(clearly we do), the tag would be an option. This takes that away now.

How does it work after the 2020 season?

Meaning, he has the 1 year, $4.6mil tender, but after next season, is he an unrestricted free agent, restricted, or something else I don't know?

Again, I don't know how all this works exactly, but wouldn't that team have had to give up a 1st rounder for him?

We were obviously going to match a tender that low for Hill. it was pointless for a team to do it. Dont be a troll.

LE dodges the point like Ben Stiller dodges in Dodgeball.

The guy allows you so much flexibility on the roster. It’s worth something

He would be an unrestricted free agent after 2020

He was attached to a 1st but even just a original offer would have started at backup offensive lineman money or something close
