quote:No, 86 year olds all together have a 10% probability of dying in the next 12 months. That includes people in all states of health.
they also have a 10% chance of dying in the next 12 months in perfect health.
quote:Few 86 year olds are.
This guy was not in perfect health.
quote:He did.
He didn't die from Covid.
quote:Two months ago. He survived pneumonia, but not covid.
He died because he was 86 and had Pneumonia.
quote:You yourself linked the page telling you how improbable that is.
He would have died with or without Covid.

Agent Orange? How much shite have they sprayed on our vets that weakened their lungs/immune systems?

quote:Are you his doctor?
We're not talking about an 86 year old in good health. The old guy had cancer and caught pneumonia. He was in a nursing home. Chances are he had little time left.
quote:Or, alternatively, accurate.
To blame this guy's death on COVID-19 with his other conditions is just stupid.
quote:
It may have been a factor
quote:Sure, yeah. The flu + pneumonia is brutal, like 50k dead per year brutal. It's not 50k dead per month brutal. That's covid.
Pneumonia for older folks is brutal all by itself.

Holy shite. They don’t want us going to work because hiding 50k dead bodies each month is really hard to do.

Who the hell spends 5-1/2 years in Vietnam? (Assuming he wasn't a POW) This guy might have been the Rambo of the Air Force.

the only good thing with this virus is that it’s killing a ton of leftists in the process.

He probably died from the embarrassment of being the brother of Pocahontas.

Wrong. That is based on average of how much longer a person lives who reaches 86. Some live 15 years, some 10 days. Depending on their circumstances and health. A person who reaches 86 suffering from cancer and pneumonia is far closer to the 10 days than to the 5.1 years. Your understanding is flawed.

Here’s my question. If he’s dying from coronavirus over a month after we’ve all been quarantined, where did he get it? What kinda social distancing was he doing?
He was in a rehabilitation center with cancer and pneumonia. It was likely brought in by the medical staff. Same happened at my Dad’s center. They had a resident get it after being locked down for a month. Turns out the medical director, who is also my Dad’s doctor, has it.

quote:My understanding is fine. You seem to be overestimating the number of 86 year olds who are in perfect health. You know how many people age 70+ have cancer? Over 20% of them. Cardiovascular disease over age 80? 80%. Obesity over age 60? 40%.

Very few people in their 80s are in great health. And yet, overall, they live several more years on average. So many people this old have one or more diseases, yet only about 10% of 86 year olds die within 1 year. Which means about 1% of them are expected to die in the next month. One percent! Crazy how many of them happen to die "with" covid!

Another stumble Korkster. Cancer for a period of time and pnuemonia is far from perfect health. He was and has been dying for a spell to say the least. Aside from that it is pretty much a given that @ 86 perfect health is extremely rare. I recently read a book concerning longevity. And the most important thing in reaching old, old age is getting to 70 without a major cardio, cancer, diabetes type issue. If you can do that then 80 to 85 is reasonably attainable. If you reach 80 without the issues then high 80's to 90 is in sight. But a heart problem or some other serious illness such as diabetes is not promising. Cancer is a death sentence at that age. It weakens your system so anything is then major. This gentleman had experienced cancer and his days were short indeed at his age. CANCER! In fact a fall could have embellished his end. But it was the cancer. Or even a bad cold. But no one would have said "old Tom died from a head cold. You'll understand more if you live that long.
BTW, I'm 74 and frankly almost all my friends are over 70. 8 of us are Panera coffee clubbers and solve a ton of the world's and SEC's issues four mornings a week. ZERO have or have had cancer. Or a heart attack. One guy fell out of a tree and broke several ribs from taking his chain saw up an oak to cut a limb recently. The 80 year old is getting married to a 61 year old (he has been widowed for 10 years) but other than those two and posting on here everyone seems to be fairly sound of mind. So there you go. Dude had cancer for a period of time and was 86. He's a dead man.

Well it's settled, then, anecdotes beat probability.
So tell me, how do you explain the fact that people are dying of *all* causes at roughly 3X the typical rate in NYC? Did there just happen to be a huge batch of old and sick people ready to die at exactly the time this virus came around?

Her family should be thankful that he lived a rich life to a ripe old age. Call me cold-hearted but I have no sorry to give for someone who lived that long. Actually, I'm more envious of someone who had a sibling live that long.

He’s probably her brother just like she’s an effin Indian
Too bad whatever happened to him missed her, so far!

Read that he was a B52 crew member. LT Col , flew almost 300 missions over Vietnam . Deserves respect. He didn’t pick his sister. Prayers sent. Sir, thank you for your service
