Tool Kit Recommendation

A friend of mine (recently divorced, single dad w/ full custody) had his truck tool box stolen out of his truck, in his driveway. He is in the middle of doing some work in his new place. A couple of us want to go in together and get him some sort of multi tool kit. We’re looking at the following. If you have any input I’d appreciate it.

I've been using Dewalt for 20+ years. Never had any big issues and from my experience they stand behind their product.. Just my opinion.

When I got my first house I started my collection and went yellow. Mainly because that’s what my parents had. 10 years later and I have upgraded several tools, but haven’t worn or broke any.

Ryobi has some pretty solid kits at home depot.
But whatever one you get, make sure you get him some extra batteries and not the little ones.

All of them are pretty good. I have makita and it's excellent. Milwaukee has a ton of options right now and it's probably what I would buy.

Hard to beat Ridgid's LIFETIME Warranty on tools and BATTERIES (when purchased with a tool or in a kit)!!!!!

Dewalt or Milwaukee, both have the most extensive tool lines. Hitachi is a great buy too.

My last hitachi drill gave me 18yrs and only had to replace batteries once. Looks like they’ve been bought out by some other company now

Hitachi Koki bought Metabo in 2015, Metabo is a Germany-based professional tools company. The Metabo HPT name is a change in name only, not where products are produced because a German investment group bought the power tools division from Hitachi Koki in 2017.

Dewalt and Milwaukee have the most extensive tool line that will work with their respective battery platforms.
Milwaukee is owned by a Chinese company, TTI. (also owns/produces Ryobi and Ridgid)

I like Dewalt. Milwaukee has become crap since they started selling stuff at HD....and they are the same brand as Rigid and Ryobi. Ryobi ain't a bad choice but Dewalts batteries last longer in my experience.
I would also seriously look at Bauer at Harbor Freight....they are priced right and I have some Bauer 110V power tools that are more than sufficient for use around the house and by a pretty serious hobbyist.

A lot of people don't know this but if the tool has a "center" position between forward and reverse it turns the clutch off completely and the battery will stay charged for months...if you leave it forward or reverse the clutch stays powered up draining the battery. I leave all of my Dewalt 18V tools between forward and reverse and some of them will be charged 6 months later.

They are all fine, I bought the Rigid set because if you register the tools they will warrant the batteries.
That said, I've had my Rigid set since 2012 and haven't had a battery go bad yet.
I do recommend the set that comes with the quick charger.

I've had Bosch for about 10 years now and they've been great. I don't think you would be going wrong with any of the brands you listed. As others have said, Dewault and Milwaukee have a lot more tool options if I recall correctly. I went with Bosch because it was on sale the day I went to Lowes.

We have yellow at a communal camp and they are very good but the small 1.5a batteries only last 3-4 yrs. Then you buy a kit w a drill and driver that includes 2 batteries for the price of 2 batteries.
For my home I went w/ rigid, I had Ryobi (stolen during garage B&E, F a thief), rigid are far better we will see how the batteries last.
I have used both but dewalt have more options especially for lawn care but I don't regret my ernge decision because of battery coverage.
