I hear blood clots are an element of advanced disease...he must be in really bad shape..seems like a last ditch effort.

Apparently one of the medications he was on caused a clot in his leg

I'm assuming that other things like meds to dissolve/break up the clot have been tried before they amputate. Not much info here ...

It’s certainly not a common complication of the disease and the life sustaining treatments that patients receive once infected. But it makes sense given what we know about the virus and how it’s being treated.
