Something I've noticed on here is that a ton of posters never add the "h" on the end of city names. I think I see Pittsburgh misspelled 50% of the time.

Motherfrickers on here can't tell the difference between "loose" and "lose" or unlock the mysteries of "you're" vs. "your" and you want them to spell Pittsburgh properly?

The only cities that are like English cities are in the northeast, but aside from London and New York, which are very similar, there aren’t many more good comparisons

The rough edges of Philly and Boston make a pretty decent Liverpool comparison, IMO

Birmingham is pretty comparable to any shithole in the US. Not in culture or size or demographics. But in shittiness.

NOLA and Belfast. Rich history but currently a crime-riddled shithole in part due to a significant event within the past 30 years.

NOLA probably has more sectarian violence

Essex and Kent are the Florida of England. All the Cockneys in the East End have settled there because of immigration into London.

Blackpool is the Myrtle Beach of England.

Friend, these are terrible. Can't believe you'd compare New Orleans to boring and hipster Glasgow.

Glasgow and New Orleans are quite similar. Strong musical scenes. Both were once the second cities of their respective nations/empires and both have rapidly slumped since those times. Both port cities with strong influences from Catholic immigrants. Both heavily invested in ship manufacturing. When ship manufacturing left, significant injury to local economy for both.

I've never heard of Glasgow being considered hipster. Obviously, there is no one-to-one comparison between New Orleans and any British city. But Glasgow is the one I think most closely resembles it historically and economically.

Lol, have some of you baws ever even been to the UK or half the US cities you're recommending?

The only city that really feels much like the UK in the US is Boston (duh). Many parts of the North End feel as if you've been dropped in Covent Gardens. They're extremely similar in look and feel.

Glasgow is a grungy hipster art-school city now.

Portland/Seattle is probably a better comp for Liverpool than Baltimore. Some pretty far left ideologies on merseyside. Oddly enough, New Orleans isn't a bad comp for Liverpool either. There's a disconnect between the people of liverpool and the rest of the country. They'll tell you that they're scouse, not english. Much like New Orleanians/Lousianans in general feel very Louisianan and have a different culture than the surrounding areas. Culturally portland is the best comp. Industrially it's probably Pittsburgh or Detroit. Working class areas that are a shell of their former industrial might. Liverpool was once a major global port. From a sense of feeling more connected to their locale than the country at large (and the music scene), New Orleans is a good fit.
