Quarantine got me thinking about an eventual trip to the UK which lead me to become curious about city comparisons between the US & UK

Never been to UK, so these comps could be way off. But this is what I've gathered so far. Curious what yall thought.

London = New York
Manchester = mix of LA & Chicago
Birmingham = Chicago
Liverpool = mix of Boston & Philly
Edinburg/Yorkshire = Houston
Glasgow = Detroit
Norfolk = mix of Alabama & Tennessee
Brighton = mix of San Fran & New Orleans
Cardiff = Atlanta

Are you comparing cities by population? Cultural makeup? Economy?

Something I've noticed on here is that a ton of posters never add the "h" on the end of city names. I think I see Pittsburgh misspelled 50% of the time.

Is this a regional thing?

Don't know much about Cardiff, but on first glance it's pretty small (1M) and about 50% of the metro area lives inside the city limits. In contrast, Atlanta metro is 6M people with only 500k in the city limits. What makes these two cities similar?

Cardiff is also known as a popular tourist destination. Im not seeing this.

Thibodaux once claimed to be the Venice of LA... which is at odds with the existence of Venice, LA.

Edinburgh =/= Houston

One is an awesome cultural city with tons of history and one is massive and dull sprawl. Edinburgh is probably more like Boston

London is like New York combined with Washington DC.

With a sprinkle of India and Islam.

There aren't really good UK comparables for sprawl/new growth cities like Atlanta, Houston, Dallas or Phoenix.

There is no city like LA in England

The only cities that are like English cities are in the northeast, but aside from London and New York, which are very similar, there aren’t many more good comparisons

I'm thinking a combination of the 3

but curious how others interpret the question too

NOLA and Belfast. Rich history but currently a crime-riddled shithole in part due to a significant event within the past 30 years.
