The O line next year

I have seen more worries here and nationally on the o line more than any other group, especially now that Cox is a tiger, looking at the personnel I'm not sure why. At LT,we have Rosenthal and (Ware, who has the potential to start this year, he was a high 4*) as RS So.'s, D.R. started 6 games last year during Charles suspension and played well. At LG Ed Ingrams back as a Jr, I don't think anyone has questions about him. At RG K.Thomas and Bradford will compete as RS Fr, neither have started but having those 2 compete would be a great problem for a lot of schools. At RT I know Deculus isn't perfect but he will be a 3 year starter and is very solid and I guess Savage(RSSr) is his back up. At C there is definitely a ? but Hines did a hell of a job as a TFr at LG on a partially torn ACL, they are different positions but Hines is entering his Jr year....i know there's not much behind him but Dumervil(OT), Martinez(OG,OC) Hill(OG) Evans(C)are all solid prospects too. Savage, who seems like he's been here 10 years is another very solid back up, I think he started a game or two last season, the OL Coach did wonders last year. I'm just wondering what others think of the O line this year, I think we are at least in as good of shape as last year, but with more young talent, I like the direction the OL is heading

Hoping that Evans progresses at a high rate, and is ready to take over Center position from the get go - allowing Hines to move back to OG. If so, and Rosenthal is ready to go, that will be a quality O-Line.
Maybe not as much depth as you would like, but that is true of most teams.

The key is Evans he has good blood lines . I personally think not only will he turn heads but will blossom and be special.

Any shot at a grad transfer C? With Cox coming in to help at LB, I feel like C is the one spot without quality depth. It’d be nice to play Hines 57 at G

LT Rosenthal/ Wire
LG Ingram/ Hill
C Hines/ Evans
RG Bradford/ Thomas
RT Deculus/ Perry
I think this is our best 2 deep line up. They can always cross train these guys to keep the best 5 on the field at all times. For instance, Ingram, Hill, and Thomas can cross train at C. I think Bradford can play RT and could possibly be the starter there next year. Hines already has Guard experience, so I think we are in good shape. We still have Savage who’s been at LSU forever it seems, and guys like Dumervil, Martinez, and possibly CamRon Jackson. We definitely lack the experience we had last year, but we are still talented.

we should be fine as long as Rosenthal is good to go.

Agree with your comment that picking up the LBer Cox is big for our D. I am concerned about the Oline not having time to gel during the off-season. We have a lot of talent, but lost 5 guys that had significant playing time, and 3 starters. This group is missing the normal off-season reps.
This time last year, Oline was one of my biggest concerns based on the previous year. They came through and deserve credit. Other things fell in to place that helped them look good. Play calling, outstanding receiver play (so many drops from the prev year), and Burrow's ability to slip the rush and make plays all made the Oline look good. Hard to predict how all these come together this year.

According to Ed O and John Robinson, Dare Rosenthal is a future first or second-rounder at left tackle.
Furthermore, also according to early spring practice reports before it came to an abrupt halt, Cameron Wire is good enough currently to be a starter at left tackle. I doubt he'll ever play there though cause Dare Rosenthal will keep that spot for at least two more seasons. However, I could see Wire being the heir apparent to Austin Deculus next season.
Meanwhile, I'm also betting that whoever loses the starting battle at right guard between Bradford and Thomas will be the main backup this season for both the right and left guard spots in 2020.

last year almost the entire starting o-line from 2018 returned. It was a given that they were going to be pretty good. This years O-line has talent but doesn't have a lot of PT experience. Oline could be off to a rough start to start the season in 2020. OL is my only concern with this years team, especially with a new QB who is also going to have a rough start if the OL is sketchy.

Burrow's escapability made the OL look a lot better than what it was at times. Avoiding sacks, and making big plays. Was still a really solid unit.
Replacing 3 starters is going to be tough at first. Might take 6 games or so to gel. And going back to my first point...Brennan does not have the same feel in the pocket Joe did. Not many QBs ive ever seen in CFB has, really. So he's going to get hit and pressured and people will bitch. But reality is, replacing that many lineman is hard. And no one is Joe Burrow.
You dont just snap your fingers and everyone is on the same page.

He seems to have all the ingredients to be a good center by 2021. Would be very worried if Hines went down though this season though. I really like that move as he would have been buried on the DL depth chart and he fills a big need on the OL and could maybe be our starting center after Hines.

Also a lot depends on Rosenthal returning. Has it ever been reported what the issue is there with him?

I don't think "it was a given" that they were going to be good. In November of last season Coach O called out the line play as being what was holding us back for the entire world to hear. Not too many on the message boards were touting returning the starting o-line that shat the bed against Alabama.

Rosenthal, Ingram, Hines and Deculus have all started SEC games

FWIW, I have seen comments in interviews that they are looking at Martinez as a developing Center this year. I think Turner is having trouble getting up to weight (Roster lists as 266 lbs)

the individual talent is fine. They just haven't played together extensively, if at all

I do think our offensive line got slightly overrated last year because of this. There was a reason so many big passing plays were Burrow scrambling outside the pocket and throwing deep on the run. Good unit but they allowed a fair amount of pressure at times, Joe was just an escape artist with his pocket presence.
