and now are applauding authoritarian laws and trying to scream down anyone who preposes a balance between keeping people safe and yet not destroying our economy? It’s weird.

I’m convinced some of my conservative friends on Facebook would have turned people in to the Nazis for a loaf of bread and some toilet paper.

Y'know, people will always bitch about things.

Right now we have some folks losing their fricking minds, because the government is trying to limit spread of a pandemic. I get that it's frustrating, inconvenient, and possibly financially crippling.

If they didn't do this, we'd probably see a lot of people, a lot of the same people, bitching that the government is standing around with their thumbs up their asses as people die.

The economy could be tanking as workers boycott and call in sick during the pandemic, instead of tanking because people are being told to stay home.

This is just a bad situation all the way around. I honestly think the popular mood would be worse if the government wasn't "doing something".
We just need to get through this.

Sorry, but the media and politicians no longer should be given the benefit of the doubt when they tell us to do something and it’s for our own good. These are the same people who lie about practically everything. These are the same people who claim if we don’t pass a Green New Deal in 9 years, we will all be dead. These are the same people who said Y2K was going to be a nationwide disaster. These are the same people who want to take away guns from every citizen when there is a school shooting in a gun free zone.
Sorry, you can believe and trust them, they’ve burned that bridge with me a long time ago.

No. No I don't have any friends like that. Interestingly enough about all if not all my friends have guns for hunting and or home defense.

No... that was AOC and her friends.

Trump has never said that. He's the one leading this shutdown.

I remember that. There were concerns about coding in the software.

There was some legit basis to that... I've fired up old PCs that have lost the internal date processing (bad mobo battery), and browsers have fits with certificates that don't mesh. The machine reverts to the default manufacturing date, and thinks every website is a fraud because the date is "in the future".

Nobody knew what might happen, depending on how sloppy the programming was.

Some are, some aren't. I think some pro-2A guys are following the guidelines.

Look, I get that some people want as little government as possible, but one of the essential roles of any government is to protect the populace. Some people don't think we should have a standing military, but other, outside nations wouldn't respect a citizen's desire to be left alone. So we have to have one.

In this case, we have a disease spreading over the entire world, and we're the most advanced nation on the planet, with the most resources. It would be negligent NOT to act in some way.
It's a balancing act. They're trying not to do it too heavy-handed, but people also need to act responsibly too.

I’m not impugning Trump, I’m a fan of his, and if he had his way, we probably wouldn’t have shut down the economy at all.
I’m talking about the broader picture including big government and the mainstream media that always lies and are always pushing an agenda. The politicians act as if our welfare is their main goal and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

I completely agree. The Wuhan Flu has failed to change my mind.
It is frustrating to see other Americans happy to give up their rights so easily.

Well that's a broad statement. I've stayed home for three weeks now but haven't given up my right to assemble if that is what I choose to do. Being an asthmatic with high blood pressure and 68 years-old I choose not to tempt the devil but I haven't relinquished anything because of this virus. There's a difference between altering your lifestyle and giving up your lifestyle. I'm taking this as just one badass snowstorm that has me housebound for an indefinite amount of time. Life will get back to normal when the snow melts for me.

I agree with that. That being said, I am listening to the thousands of doctors who are saying it. I am smart enough to understand that there are people who are much smarter than me, who have spent their entire lives researching microbiology, medicine, and epidemiology. They are the ones telling us to stay home. The media is just their mouthpiece right now.

ETA: I am one of the people who believe that the government has gone too far with the liberty taking. I believe that states rights are more important than federal rights. I believe that the federal government should protect our constitutional liberties and that is it. I also have common sense. The current situation is not being used to take personal liberty away. It is being done to protect individual lives. What about the 60 year old who has asthma. Don’t they deserve life and liberty and the right to pursue happiness? This is what it takes to give them that chance. If they die because you just had to go buy a new tv at Walmart, and you accidentally infected them while they were trying to buy bread and milk, how is that fair?

Found the problem.

I don’t know anybody who brags about fighting the government. I know some people who are adamant about the 2nd, and most if not all of them are in the “what the hell are they doing” camp. The one firearm forum I look at is pretty much the same.

Maybe your friends aren’t that conservative?

What about climate "scientists" aren't they smart people? Yet even if their predictions were plausible, I wouldn't believe them just on the basis of what media outlets continuously run segment after segment of gloom and doom. Then right behind them are the politicians with a tax proposal to fix or attempt to fix it. They want money, they will want a new section of government (with as little oversight as possible) and they want power.

The increasing number of people wondering if martial law would help ‘slow the spread’ is somewhat concerning.

Not really. Most of the true anti-government people are smart enough to not say shite on social media.

It's the paper tigers that say it publicly.
