I was 12 so I don’t remember anything about this. Did anyone actually give a frick back then? What was the overall reaction from the media and the American people?

Hell no!
This one shouldn't be either.

You would have left with your $500 still in your pocket.

No, we were still riding the togetherness of 911.

Savage come to the hospitals and see what I see. I’m just a contractor and I see ICU’s full I see and hear these people choking. We are making room for all these sick people. I thought it was no big deal till you actually see it and even worse hear it.

Nobody really paid attention to it back then
Little media time and of course they did if they or a family member had it but that’s it

I remember it because I worked with a girl named Sarah that summer who everyone at work began calling SARS. She didn't appreciate it.
That was the extent of it being a big deal.

Previously, we just had a grin and bear it approach to these things. It was just viewed as the inherent risk of being human, we all knew there were viruses that could cull the herd.I think the Ebola “scare “ was the first psychological shift I noticed and this new approach has been completely unprecedented. I think a cost benefit analysis in earlier times would have always defaulted on the unsentimental and stoic side of commerce and the work ethic. More than political, the difference has been the new affluence we have now where we feel we should be largely exempt from risk and future plagues will be overcome with science and mass State intervention . It’s a monumental cultural shift no matter what you think about it.

Everyone rolled their eyes and went about their business. Covid19 is actually caused by SARS.

SARS was bad for China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, but the scale of the outbreak was much smaller, and it never really spread around the world like Coronavirus.

Were you there to watch 34,000 Americans die with the flu last year?
34,000...THIRTY-FOUR THOUSAND...
When we reach half that with this virus. We'll talk.

Yes, the spread of the original SARS was stopped. Not sure how. But I do remember concerns at the time that it would have been scary if it had not been.

I was also 12 and I remember it being talked about ad nauseum on the news. It was a huge deal, just never really made it over here in any meaningful way

Ok bud. I’m not arguing with you. Just saying I see it. The hospital is FULL. I never in my life seen anything like it. Be safe dude

I was in Asia a few days ago and was China during SARS and this seems a bigger deal on the ground.
I'm pretty sure I've had both tho and SARS was a mean bitch.

Why did you ever think it was no big deal? Who is saying this? People like you that think its no big deal until you see one person you know affected are the absolute worst of society.
It is a big deal, it is going to kill a lot of people. We are humans, lots of shite kills us. For the low percentage of people that actually are hospitalized with this we shouldn't be stopping society the way we are.
You are the same person that doesn't realize how this is going effect the economy until YOU lose your job.

But how come the hospital isn’t full during flu season?
