Shortage of Hospital supplies

My wife (no pics) is an infection prevention nurse at a nursing home.
We have been discussing the corona virus for about the last 2 and half months (since I saw the main thread on here).
She has been trying to stock up on N95 marks since then. But everywhere she was allowed to order from was backordered.
They have 1400 in stock. She says that at least 28 employees would need one a day between night shift and day shift... and that's with wearing the same one between patients all day. Which means they have about a 50 day supply. They are trying to stock enough for 100 employees... which means they only currently have a 14 day supply.
They dont even have a positive tested patient yet... but they have already been informed by the cdc and alabama health department to make their own masks cause they wont be able to get any others.
Here are the homemade ones she has to use currently until it is deemed necessary to open their stock of 1400.
Bring on the downvotes... bring on the "well her employer should have invested more in this or that ahead of time", bring on all the negative blah blah blahs.
All I ask is that you believe the shortage and need for these supplies is real.
Even if they do everything they can to keep it out of their facility, if others get overfilled they will be required to take in overflow.

The purchasing agent in our nursing home has a budget and she’s finally started telling admin she needs what she needs. They give her no grief.
That said I’m working from home and don’t know our supply situation. I know as of now we have zero positive covid residents. Thank God.

The good news is that if people can hold on for another few weeks I think all these industries/companies pivoting to make medical protective gear will start cranking these things out and leading to a wealth of supply.

I bet all the sorority sloots at Bama would be willing to sew some houndstooth masks.

Around 200.00 a day for private pay & they can’t stock up on supplies
frick them
ETA
Especially in a nursing home where the regular flu can get around easily

My personal opinion: unless a mask is directly exposed to a Corona patient, there's no reason to throw it out at the end of the day.
Waste not, want not.
Waste not, want not.

What we are doing is at end of the shift we throw ours in a box. Once it fills up we dump in a bigger box. The virus only lives for so long, then after a few days we disinfect all those masks, let sit another day in the sun and reuse them

Aren't many already doing this due to the shortage on those masks in the hot spot areas? Our hospital hasn't reached that point yet luckily.

But how is that the fault of the LPN that just happens to work there?
This board is quick to want to punish the people that have NOTHING to do with the purchasing of these facilities.

I have 3 masks, put them in biohazard bags but don’t seal the bag after every shift, leave them in my car and reuse them

I'm having a hard time understanding some of these claims. We have vendors offering N95 masks where they can make roughly 10,000 per day. Where are people looking?
We already have two different agencies wanting everything we can get them. Writing up purchase orders for 100,000 at a time.

I know our nursing home typically is “able” (allowed?) to order from particular vendors. Idk but am hoping that this has changed given the circumstances.

Most of what I have seen is people having an issue with drama queens blaming the Prez instead of those directly responsible.

Would love a link. Thanks

10,000 a day is nothing when every state in union, plus the feds, plus private hospitals and other outfits are looking to buy.

I have yet to see a RN on fb post that they are blaming the lack of supplies directly on Trump. Each one I've seen they are upset at their facility leadership for not giving them what they need. Or they are upset at the CDC cause they think CDC has let them down.

I think this may be part of the battle she is facing. Cant just order from anyone. I'd have to ask.

Nurse, they aren’t even wearing gloves to serve meals or meds where my Grandpa is at
They are still feeding all of the people that can’t feed themselves together & still have the community coffee / lemonade / water stations up
