“I'm having a hard time understanding some of these claims. We have vendors offering N95 masks where they can make roughly 10,000 per day. Where are people looking?”
One distributor I know sold 300,000 thermometers in a day but had orders for 1 million.
The federal government requested 500 million N95 masks. That will put a strain on supply. When you have the whole world requesting products you can’t keep up with demand. Lots of fly by night scammers offering deals , some asking for money up front. We hear about them every day. Or the $9 a mask bit.

I'm sorry you guys are dealing with that frustration. I get it, you want your grandfather to be safe. I would be upset too.
I would still call and ask exactly what are they doing (besides not allowing visitors) to prevent their residents from getting sick right now and spreading it to others. You have that right to ask.

That's not that unreasonable when dealing with such large quantities. We have had requests for a couple million from companies that we've never heard of. That's a lot of money to put up for someone that may not even pay.
Trying to work out the best possible way to make it fair for both sides.
I am just getting involved in this, although I was getting emails from vendors about a week ago. I just figured I'd my suppliers were contacting me then surely they are already working with other companies. Then today we started getting requests for multiple million piece orders.

Do nurses / doctors that aren’t seeing / treating Covid patients need all the special gear?
No.
Some hospitals (like mine) is having all staff wear a regular mask all day long that they reuse. However, if you are going into a patient's room that is in isolation(not just COVID)...you take that mask off and put in paper bag for storage...and then put on the needed ppe for that room.

Our nurses don’t wear gloves to give meds or at least not that I’ve ever seen under normal circumstances. CBGs yes but not for meds.
Also we have gowns and masks but we don’t have many that ever require it really. We do get some on different precautions (c diff, droplet, etc) but not many all all the same time. We don’t go through gobs on a daily basis under normal circumstances.

As long as they did proper hand hygiene 1) before preparing meds and 2)in between the patients they are handing meds out to...gloves wouldn't be needed.

They may use hand sanitizer but they don’t go to washing station, I’ve watched them go room to room with meds

What I”m referring to is random probably brokers or scammers cold calling nursing homes saying, “if you need masks we need a large enough order for the factory to make it” send us a check for $100,000. If you even get your product you have no idea of quality control.

As long as their hands don't become visibly soiled that is ok.
Except....if the room they go into the patient has c diff. Then they should be wearing some gloves (gown as well..again I don't work in a nursing home...but that's what we do in hospital) and MUST wash their hands instead of using hand sanitizer when they leave room because hand sanitizer doesn't kill c diff spores. Soap and water washing doesn't either, but washing your hands mechanically moves the spores off your hands.

It’s just gross to me when they have to help people swallow pills & don’t wear gloves
Or set up a breathing treatment mask with no gloves
No way I could be a nurse

Please tell me they are wearing gloves to empty a urinal
Posted on 3/27/20 at 11:36 pm to lsunurse
Yes
CNA’s do that
The CNA’s also wear gloves to help him get dressed

Yep — we got one in 2018 and boy she’s Nurse Ratchet with good reason. We see her, we want to run
but she’s just doing her job and she is good at it.
But any concerns should be voiced and they should address them with you.

As soon as I walk up to the nurse's station of the units on the floors if they know who I am I can hear whispers "Infection control, put your drinks away!"

How many beds is this place? a part time DON/ head nurse? That would be insane.
Patients have rights and if you feel his are being violated/jean being harmed you need to ask for the social worker, Director or nurses or administrator. If nothing else you can find out who the Omsbudmen is and call them.

Yes yes yes. Coffee gets hidden with a quickness. She’s actually slacked on that a little. I know she shouldn’t but she has.

Somewhere around 125 I believe
We finally quit going to family meetings because there was no point
I can honestly say the floor nurses & CNA’s treat the residents with respect & do their best to help for the most part
No matter how nice the place is or how much you pay no one is going to take care of your family like you think they need to be taken care of

Likely so stressed out by everything else she just doesn't even pay attention to it
I know I don't right now. Got bigger fish to fry than enforcing an OSHA standard.
