Reopening the Economy

President Trump wants to reopen the economy by Easter.
Blue state governors with shelter in place orders have everything shut down till May 1, with further guidance after that. How does this resolve itself?

Those states will miss out on the booming economy

I think this is a goal, it's not a hard date. Certainly not for hot spots like NYC or NOLA.

I have said this from the moment he shut down the economy blue state governors would still keep things closed. It will be interesting to see how each state feels.
I have yet to see a poll out asking if people want to go back to work by Easter. And I think I know why I haven't seen it.

Trump said last night that the hot spots can do what their Gov wants as we open up the USA.

i think certain areas not being hit will be reopen. im sure people in places like Montana and Idaho where there are hardly any cases are pissed right now

Cities like Houston and Dallas would just lose a shite ton of business and tax revenue to their suburbs for weeks. That’s a powerful motivator. Cities like New York where everything around is blue may be on lockdown until June.

I see it going down like this.
Trump only reopens economy fully if either a cure is proven, or full comprehension of disease proves it to be less deadly than the flu.
If either happen the Blue State governors will be forced by the people to follow suit with the rest of the nation.

Feds will advise, but local governors / mayors will be the ones making the decisions here.

He can re-open the economy all he wants, but he can’t force cautious people to leave their house. Business will suffer either way. There’s just no way around it unfortunately until this goes away.

The economy never closed, certain areas of the economy closed. Things will get back to normal in a similar manner as they closed depending on local and state conditions.

What does “reopening the economy” actually look like?
-Limited open with social distancing requirements (I.e. no one within 6 feet of one another, limits to numbers in crowds)?
-Just act like the virus doesn’t exist and get back to 100%, or as close as possible?
-Quarantine at risk and over 60, then open up? (What happens if company has significant number in that category? CN they fire them to create headspace?
-Something else?

Trump didn’t shut things down. Those are decisions being made by governors and mayors. He has nothing to “open back up”.

Personally, I would say businesses should leave those states and never go back. Trump should arrange for funding for any business to transport full operations to a rational state.

Many states have closed schools until the end of April. This will need to be addressed before everyone can go back to work. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Not all. We have a R(INO) Governor that just kept kids at home for the rest of the school year.
