quote:There was a big response, yes. And Obama was heavily criticized that fall for potential mis-steps.
Was there nationwide lockdowns during this time? Was there national panic? Did the stock market crash? Did the media daily hound Obama about his lack of leadership? Why?
But I don't think the swine flu ever had the same estimated and/or realized hospitalization rates. The problem with WuFlu really isn't mortality - it's the hospitalization rate.

Because if Covid 19 is alowed the same amount of time to spread those will be rookie numbers.
It is not necessarily more lethal it is more virulent, which is what "the flu is worse" retards can not grasp.

Ah, the media controls half of the world’s governments. You learn something new every day.

I look for America's CV infections to be near flu numbers from 2 years ago (30-50M)...but I dont see deaths being that high at all (61k)...more like 15k-20k
But due to all the preventions...this years flu numbers limbo lower than last year's 34k deaths...
Probably 25-30k
The issue is there are so many people walking around asymptomatic...look at Rand, healthy a bit younger than his peers, gets the stick in the head because he has to attend meetings...has it...the wealthy that demand it have been getting tested obviously, because a bunch have it

I’m talking about the US and the US media. Don’t be a dumb arse.

quote:Hell no, especially with half the country locked down and considering its looking like the shite has already been in the USA for months.
Do you think 17,000 Americans will die from Corona?
Guaranteed though, the economic fallout will result in more and bigger long term problems than 17,000 deaths.

It's really not drastically more virulent...
On average, during the whole course of the infection...
1 person passes it to 2 people...numbers wise, it's not that passable
Eta: Not that it's not effective, it is, but it's marginally better than flu...the truth is the flu is very effective at removing large portions of populations...just as CV might be

You are correct, it won't. And 17k will be a fraction of the end result.

This is a passage from a WaPo article a few days back. Funny how no one mentions THIS...
"After Barack Obama became President in 2009, he eliminated the White House Health and Security Office, which worked on international health issues."
Even CNN admits that Obama dropped the ball in his delayed H1N1 pandemic response later that year. LINK

I'm with you, especially looking at US numbers.
However, Italy only lost 179 people to Swine flu. Europe as a whole 2900.
The CDC gives a range of US deaths where 17k is on the high end. For some reason all the numbers in wiki and European sources has our numbers in the 3500 range.

H1N1 swine flu has killed as many as 17,000 Americans, including 1,800 children, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Friday.
Why the frick do i not have any recollection of this? I remember H1N1 but not people dying. I may be from a different dimension. That being said, I am in a dimension that is currently fricking the US economy and want to get out of here.
