David Byrne on SNL reminded me of how great the Talking Heads were

And what is perhaps one of my all-time favorite live performances

Talking Heads - Life During Wartime LIVE Los Angeles '83

ETA: The whole concert film "Stop Making Sense" is great if you're a fan or not. Just an awesome performance.

If anyone has a free hour, there are worse ways to spend it than watching this 1980 Talking Heads performance in Rome. The set list is killer, the energy is through the roof, Adrian Belew is a guest guitar player...it is just all around a fantastic show with the Heads at the peak of their powers.

They must really, really all hate each other to have never bothered with a reunion. Although between how David Byrne has done as a solo artist, how Jerry Harrison did as a record producer in the 90s (he discovered Live) and how Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth did with "Genius of Love" I guess they don't need to fool with it.

That performance on Saturday was fun. Would have loved to see them perform as a band back then.

I know it's basically blasphemous to say these days, but I could never get into TH. I've tried numerous times since the 80's, as recently as a few months ago, and they just don't grab me. My dad was a big fan and played the "Stop Making Sense" VHS often when I was a kid, which is usually an automatic favorite due to the sentimental angle, but nah, just not my thing.

Recently added Once in a Lifetime to my bike jams playlist.

Brian Eno (producer, co-writer & synth) adds so many cool little critter tracks it’s just mad, and the restraint to wait until the last chorus for the big guitar panned straight up in the mix is production greatness.

Thanks, stout, for that '83 video.
I recall seeing the band at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix that same year!
