Drama at the white perch tournament on darbonne lake. Some dead fish floating around the release site after the weigh in

White perch fishing was once single pole fun fishing. Now it’s live scopes and 16 poles out at once.

If you read the comments, there's some pretty good explanations.

70 boats with 7 fish limit, even if every single fish died, it's still an irrelevant number for that body of water.

Also, a guy said he saw a kid scooping them all up and putting them into a cooler to take home, so they weren't all going to waste either.

I am just not big into tournament fishing, especially for a dang white perch. I hate to see white perch fishing go down the same path as bass fishing. Already seeing a bunch of folks trying to impose stricter limits in size and numbers even though they aren’t warranted. See bass fisherman all the time y’all about catch and release, and they are the same folks that catch a fish throw it in the live well and rode around with them all day so they can take a hero shot of them holding up a bunch of bass. Then they release them by the ramp miles away from where they caught them

The tournaments that weigh the fish on the boat and release then right then are the way to go

I’ve never understood most fishing tournaments period. I fish to relax and enjoy being on the water with my kids and friends, and sometimes bringing a few home to eat. I’ve never gotten the itch to go fish a silly bass tournament for a $1000 pay out. I get the charity events or occasional things like that but why rush around all day and get in a hurry, play by a pile of rules, get mad at other people over a couple of fish, etc. Sad to see crappie going the same route like other posters mentioned white perch fishing was always about enjoying catching a few for the ice chest and having a relaxing time doing it.

Top 5 most agreeable citations that Green Jeans write.
I hope the tournament director, at the least, got one.

All the “pros” advertise for this jig and this jig head but every single one of them fish shiners during these tournaments and use live scopes

A white perch tournament should be single pole artificial only

Same path deer hunting has gone.

Can you explain exactly what law the tournament director broke to deserve a ticket?

I don’t think there is a wanton waste law on gamefish but there should be. That situation breaks all the rules taught to ‘most’ of us from childhood, ‘you kill it, you eat it’

He allowed the fish that were caught in his tournament to be wasted.
He no doubt made money from this event. Why shouldn't he be held responsible?

Explain how that is against the law.

if being a douche was against the law, we would all be in jail. however, there would be a special place for tournament fisherman.

those catch, weigh, and release tournaments seem like the way to go for all fishing tournaments. less dead fish at the boat ramp. no electronis and artificial only would be fine with me as well. but hey, whatever.

bass tourney have release tanks where fish must be recovered before releasing them

apparently they have nothing like that here and about 20% or released fish are going belly up and floating to shore dead right in the middle of the tourney while they are still weighing fish

at the very least, they should have a boat or two out there collecting any released fish that cant recover and they could donate them to needy families

All about perspective. I understand your point and tournament/instagram mentality brings assholes, but the flip side to that coin is what I grew up around. For every dick who trims down past you and thinks he’s entitled to the bank before you because he’s got money on it, I can show you two MS rednecks who still run hoop nets and shoot a dozen deer a year behind a q-beam. At least the social media/tournament crowd has vested interest in seeing fish and wildlife well managed, present OP not withstanding.

I am still waiting for someone to explain how this is against the law. And how it is the responsibility of the guy who organized the tournament.

I dont know the locals to Darbonne or crappie fishing well but whoa some of those comments are cringeworthy. Apparent tourney fishermen blaming local fisherman and defending live scope as selective fishing.

More importantly, why are they advertising their support for "Ethanol: Fueled with Pride"? WTF?
