I’ll go Kevin Costner For Love of the Game and Bull Durham
Charlie Sheen for Major League
Pro athletes turned actor do not count. Such as Shaq in Blue Chips

The Rock in Pain and Gain if you consider weightlifters to be athletes. LL Cool J in Any Given Sunday was good. Basically everyone who played a boxer in the Rocky movies, including Creed, were all good.

Keanu Reeves wasn’t bad in The Replacements. Very underrated comedy in my opinion.
Cuba Gooding Jr. in Jerry McGuire - but you really never saw him on the field that much.

Derek Luke as Boobie Miles was one of my favorites.
The Rocky movies are solid choices.

Yeah Alvin Mack was a legit LB, precursor to Ray Lewis.
He also played Featherstone in Necessary Roughness, this is his IMDB photo

As for The Program, I always thought the injury scene was kind of weak. He jumps over the pulling guard and it comes down with a mangled leg. Like the guys helmet fricked his leg up like that??
Probably my favorite sports movie ever, but that scene needed some editing.

I would say weightlifters count as athletes. Dwayane "The Rock" Johnson did play some pro football. He was a highly touted recruit for Miami but he had the misfortune to be at the school when they had one of the greatest D-lines ever so he almost never got to see the field. He wound up in the CFL but hated it so much up there his dad broke him into the pro wrestling business.
The people who played the boxers in the Rocky movies were tremendous. Dolph Lundgren won two European titles in karate (along with getting a full scholarship to MIT to get his doctorate in Chemical Engineering) so that probably came pretty easy to him.

Costner has acquitted himself well in every movie he’s done.
