Just now finished after tape delay. A few thoughts / comments / question:
Why did it take so long to cleanup the wing of Aitken? It was right at marshall station. I was thinking in real time it took forever while everyone was focused on the Merc frick up. Looking at commentary, SC came out on lap 62 and green came out 69. I know they are short laps but it took forever. I am extremely interested to know if Russell picked up the puncture here with lengthy VC. I wonder if race control delayed restart to sort out the Mercs?
Totto and Russells post race interview had discrepancy. Totto said it was not human error, some electrical/radio malfunction. Russell, had alreadying having closed door conversation with Totto, implied someone was at fault. Of course Totto may be protecting his team.
As I mentioned after qualifying, mid pack Constructor Standings got shaken up. RP now in 3rd with RP, McLaren, Renault separated by 22pts. Ferrari was left in the dust. Abu Dhabi will decide the mid pack.
Congrats to Mick

Looks like Russell will keep his points with Mercedes receiving a €20,000 fine

Part of a safety car is allowing cars to unlap themselves. This always adds a lap or two.

They started with the VSC but the Sky commentators said the marshals could find a gap to clear the track. I think they then moved to the actual safety car, which bunched up the cars and allowed the track to be cleared. Then they had the unlapping.

Any chance Checo may have raced himself into the open RB seat for ‘21?

He definitely deserves it but Albon being Thai apparently matters a lot to the Red Bull shareholders. I think the majority owners are Thai.

Should... Albon failed again.
Hell, Merc should look at making Russell the 2nd seat and demoted Bottas down, although they wouldn’t want their golden goose to get upset.

Golden goose hasn’t signed his contract yet. Threatening to put Russell in the second seat could be a bargaining chip for Merc.

Hamilton isn’t going anywhere until 2022, when the new rules kick in.
He would take less money to be guaranteed another championship.

I wonder if it has to do with 1 year vs 2 year. Him and Toto not signing seems to be playing a game of chicken.

Prob... he prob realizes the Merc advantage falls in 22 and wants options to jump to RP or RB, although RB now taking a step back having to find new power units.
frick Honda
Someone was asking me the other day if Honda may get in the game and that’s the reason they won’t sell specs to RB to build their own engines.

Saw that Honda is open to letting RB use the IP. Not sure what all that would include or even if it would happen. Could be RB playing with Renault to get the price down. Wouldn't be surprised to see Honda build their own team, but not sure it would end better than what they have now.
Red Bull might be looking ahead and see bringing in Checo could mean Max leaves at the end of his next contract. Especially if that Merc seat comes open or Mclaren becomes the real deal.

I think Honda Motor wants the company to go in a different direction than F1 and more towards electric, or at least something more "carbon neutral?" At least that was their PR statement. Could be BS, who knows?

This might be pushing F1 into a new direction. Spec ICE with the teams being allowed energy recovery , MGU-K/H, etc advancements.

So how mind-fricked is Bottas after this weekend? This is what I imagine he looked like after the checkered flag.

So confusing of a weekend. Is Russell that damn good? Is it simply the car? 36-0 and very well respected leading up to this performance. Dude was killing it up until the second stop.
Does HAM mean that much to Merc that this clusterfrick happened without him around? Does somehow him driving make the team better.
Not sure if this performance is a positive or negative for HAM's negotiations. What matters, the possiblity that Russell had or the reality of where Merc ended.

I think the answer to both of those is yes. My opinion, anyways.

I think he does mean that much to them. With him in that car, that pit stop never happens because either Hamilton tells them no or they have enough faith he brings it home without the tire help.
I don't know about the negotiations. My amateur opinion says it hurts Hamilton, but not much.

I think GR really is that good but I was kinda bummed that Max had to retire on lap 1. I think he would’ve really showed out without Lewis there to dominate the circuit
