In Louisiana, if you see that someone is breaking into your car in your driveway on your property, can you go outside and shoot them? Or do they have to attack you and/or present some kind of physical threat to you before you can shoot them?

In Texas I'm assuming you can just shoot them, but wasn't sure about Louisiana.

Have to be inside your house.

What if they just charge you like they're coming to attack you?

I'm asking because of the New Orleans auto burglary thread. I feel like some Lakeview baws would just camp out with their long guns ready to roll on a motherfricker that broke into their cars.

Maybe "Tiger Bait!" them first as a warning.

Yes, you can shoot them. Just be sure to drag them into your house before you call the police.

That advice is what a former EBR Parish District Attorney told me when I asked him about shooting intruders. No kidding.

If they appear to be without a gun, I would shoot them in their hip/calf/upper leg. As I was doing that, my wife would be inside calling the cops.

Of course, I keep my vehicles inside a garage and not outside on my driveway.

Wait, you can't even do this until the cops come?

So you're allowed to do nothing to protect your property if someone is breaking into your car in your driveway?

Yes, but can’t have witnesses and drip blood back into house, try to use a round that doesn’t exit the body.....

Really? There isn’t one of them with a pair of nuts to pull a trigger. It’s loud dudes on a message board.
I know one buddy in Lakeview that would and has shot at people breaking into cars and he doesn’t hangout on the OT.

Hold them at gun point or physically restrain if you up for it.
But just shooting an unarmed person on the property may get you in trouble, even tho I think you should be able to. But to be legal they have to be inside to cap their arse

I'm not talking about OT people. I know some guys that live in Lakeview that wouldn't hesitate to do it if it was legal and I'm just wondering why it hasn't happened.

Guess I got my answer. It is very illegal

Seems stupid. If someone is on your property stealing your shite and damaging your property, you should be able to shoot them dead IMO.
