I wandered around down there in my 4X4 a few years back.
There is a lot of wasteland that needs to be used.

The federal Bureau of Land Management released its plans Thursday to open up the lands to use by energy developers and ranchers.
quote:
Bears Ears, in particular, had drawn the ire of conservatives, who felt that Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, radically overreached and trampled on residents' rights when designating the massive monument late in his second term.
The OP makes some loud, panicky claims. The claims raise questions:
(A) How did "some of the most beautiful area of the country" go nearly a century protected?
(B) How do ranchers doing what they've done for 150 years now suddenly threaten "irreversible damage"?
(C) What kind of energy development is being considered -- solar or wind?
(D) Couldn't find mining referenced in the NPR piece at all. What kind of mining?

With more people moving out of Utah than moving into Utah, I don't see this as a problem.

SALT LAKE CITY — Despite being among the fastest growing populations in the country, a new study ranks Utah among the top states from which people are leaving. ... The report indicated that 56 percent of moves were outbound in 2017, meaning more residents moved away from Utah than migrated into the state.Jan 2, 2018

Looks like what you’re bitching about is just Trump reversing an obama overreach that took a bunch of land from the locals
Since you’re defending obama ...... frick YOU!

This is a good move. Much of the grand staircase is gray and unappealing. Of course they're going to show you the prettiest part in the story. I drove through it last year. A ton of nothing in many areas.

There’s a reason all the Mormons fled to Utah. And subsequently every state around it annexed more and more land, squeezing Utah into its present shape.
The reason is that Utah sucks, and we should mine the whole place

The federal government owns 64% of Utah. Let the state of Utah manage it as they see fit.

Why does the federal government have so much claim to the western states anyway

I guess it was OK when the past 75 years of destroying our coastal area for gas for the rest of the nation? Utah will have to deal with it. We had to deal with it and our gas was more expensive than the states that used the gas we produced. Louisiana politicians sold us down the river as usual.

Seems like Trump is simply reversing a very recent government land grab.
