Anyone ever done this or know of a school that has?

My first job as a kid was selling fireworks and I've always thought it would be a good way for schools to raise money for athletes. Better than selling coupons anyway.

Kids work the stands for money and the profits also go to towards the fundraiser. It can be done in the summer while school is out. Etc.

You may be shocked to hear this but most people don't buy fireworks outside the 4th of July window.

That's exactly what my daughter said.. and you are just as dumb as she is. You raise the money around the 4th of July and put it in the bank to use later in the year.

Good luck finding a fireworks stand that wants to cut into their profits during one of the two seasons that they are open.

Instead of blackcat, will there be “world’s finest fireworks”?

Um... we wouldnt be cutting into a fireworks stores profits. We would be opening our own fireworks store. Our fireworks store = our non profit oraganization's profit.

Slapdick teenagers working around explosives. What could possibly go wrong?

It would definitely be successful raising money. Unfortunately, the way the world is right now I don’t think any school board would allow it.

I’m guessing the permits/local politician palm-greasing will not allow a stand that you proposed.

That was my biggest question. And why I was wondering if anyone had done it.

TNT has a site set that mentions doing it as a fundraiser for schools, churches, etc. But I was wondering if anybody had actually done it.

I was 15 when I did it, but that was 25 years ago. Laws may not allow kids to do it anymore. So you may be right.

Eta: It says you have to be 18 to sell fireworks. But that doesnt necessarily mean you have to be 18 to help. Kid helps the customer pick out the merchadise and restock... adult actually sells it and takes the money.

Eta2: it seems like (at least on one permit I saw) anyone 16 or 17 can help restock or handle the fireworks... but can not handle the money or "sell" the fireworks. So this means the can definitely help pick out the customer pick out ther merchandise. They just have to have an adult do the money transaction.

I'm an older fart (not quite a boomer) but I sure loved shooting bottle rockets at each other when I was a tweener and teenager.

Bring back the gross (144 pack) of bottle rockets, dammit!!

My friends had a "jump rope for heart" and a "take a Polaroid with a disabled person to put on a jar and fake a story" scams theyd run in neighborhoods to get cigarette and beer money.

ETA

This was like 6th grade. I was missing those days today alot. Friends I grew up with, getting new music equipment and being able to go to their houses and try new ways of making music while getting high. Bringing a 4 track and new cassette tape. "Pretty Noose" by soundgarden and "Self Esteem" by The Offspring was on the radio at the market, brought me back to the 90s. Sucks when everyone you shared memories with are gone, and you're only in your 30s.

I was probably 7 or so and our neighborhood was pretty new, lots of houses being built. So that summer I would make big batches of powdered lemonade, put it in a thermos, throw a few in the wagon and walk around selling lemonade to construction workers and people driving by.

My mom worked at a cancer clinic and was in charge of gathering donations for the big cancer walk every summer. One of the grocery stores donated a ton of gourmet ice cream bars to be handed out to the cancer survivors at this event. I was dumber than most 7 year olds, discovered our deep freeze was chuck full of ice cream bars, and thought “no way we can ever eat all this ice cream”. So my happy arse started filling up coolers with the bars and walking around the neighborhood, selling them to construction workers and passerby’s in the July heat. Not just Monday, not just Tuesday, all week. My pockets were overflowing with cash (at least I thought, pretty sure I sold them for a dollar).

By Thursday I’d sold most of the donated ice cream intended for cancer victims. Mom discovered it the day of the event as she was gathering all her things to go help set up.

Good idea, add liquor, smokes, charcoal etc.. Like a holiday cornucopia. They'll make a killin!

Have the kids make the fireworks themselves, that'll add a special touch to the fundraiser.

If you think it is so easy for children to sell explosives, why don’t you just start you own fireworks stand and hire kids. It’s clearly a huge money maker... your daughter seems smarter than you. She could probably help with the permits.
