Yeah quite the punch to the gut to find out your entire family history, as told to you by your so called family, was a total lie.

Your dad had a second family?

He wasn't my dad but he slept with my mother it would seem.

He had about 4 other families that he avoided completely it seems

This whole "journey to find my parents thing" started when the kids asked about my background a couple of years ago. Their heritage. Medical issues.
This is what I was interested in. I have a few medical issues and was interested in my family's medical history because I only knew my dad's history and he died young and from an unnatural cause.

Most folks in Louisiana get their DNA matches from the State Criminal DNA database.

Glad I get mine from the oldest and largest online Family Genealogical database in the USA. Traces paternal lineage to mid 1600's MA arrival in the colonies. So, 120 years before there was an America makes me a Native American. MA to IN {Revolutionary War era} to LA, been in LA since before LA was a state

My father's side of the family tree had been pretty well mapped out genealogically by my grandmother back to the 1400s. My line arrived in the colonies in 1639. DNA testing held no surprises. My wife's DNA testing has been interesting. She's used 23and Me, Ancestry.com (plus other services) and historical documents to map out the black and white side of her family.

Same. My father's family has been traced back to the 1600s in England. I don't know much about my mom's family past a few generations.

Do you want to see some candid photos, daguerreotypes, etchings, etc...?

Willie Stroker. Depends on how old your father is. He may just prove your last name before you can tell him its a joke.

Never understood people like your birth family.

Why would someone give up their child. Let someone else do all the hard work of raising the child. Then want to step up 30 years later with, "Mama is here."

What a slap in the face to the real parents. The ones who adopt and raise the child.

I'm not from Louisiana, I'm from Pennsylvania. When I got my results back, it showed that I had a first cousin across the river in Port Allen. She's also not from Louisiana, but I thought it was kind of cool that as long as I lived here, that I had a cousin across the river.
Never took the time to meet though.

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps some of these people don't want to be found or maybe you'll wish you didn't find them.

I can see finding a cousin that's a low life and them wanting to get money out of you.

Seems like a bad idea.

You have to opt in to that service. It won't match you to people unless they specifically sign up to be visible in the family locator.
