Over the last week - huge Flu breakout in Collierville is closing schools

"West Collierville Middle School will be closed for the remainder of the week.

Nearly one-third of the student body — 462 of 1,286 students — was absent Wednesday, district officials said."

My son is in the HS in the district - he was confirmed Flu this a.m. - at the HS there were 275 out on Tues

The situation sounds like it's fluid.

I was just thinking of buying a Middle Schooler and us moving to West Collierville.

Thanks for staying on top of it for us.

this is pretty standard, no?

I know my daughter's school sent a e-mail about how they were monitoring the number of students out with the flu this week and would consider closing if the numbers reached a certain %

My neighborhood is in the West Collierville district, but my oldest is only 3 and he goes to "school" where my wife works. They haven't seemed to have as big of an issue with the flu so far, but I'm just waiting on the hammer to fall in my house

Hawaii, and Oregon are the only states in the US that don't have widespread Flu right now, according to the CDC.

Weekly Influenza Activity Estimates

ETA...on the Eastern side of Tennessee, Knox County Schools were closed from Wednesday through Friday of this week. Even private schools in East Tennessee are closing to contain the spread.

All that I know is that I departed San Diego last Thursday with the terminal full of Chinese and 50% of them had surgical masks on.

I think the same thing is about to happen here in Dallas at my kids school. A small private school and we are missing about 1/2 the student body due to the flu. When I walked out this morning after Mass there was another going home puking on the sidewalk in front.

There is definitely some shite going around.

I wish doctors would let us get tamiflu to just keep on inventory. It’s a wonder pill. Flu shot is like 50% effective.
