Where do our taxes go?

Does anyone believe our government (all levels) are correct in their figures?
I ask this because I see a state that has 12 mil population wanting to get rid of college debt for 2 million people.
Just roughing it, 2 million loan holders at 10k debt each is 20 million. If I take that an divide it by each person, the cost really isnt that much per person. However when I think of all the tax I pay daily, knowing it goes to lots of things, its still a massive number. Then we see our government leaders spending all this money on pens and impeachment when most of this country doesnt want that cost.
