China heard of Elvis and that was before the Internet.

I believe that the death of Elvis was so much a greater a loss for people to grasp than the death of Kobe. I don't believe it's even comparable.
I didn't care about MJ aside from some early J5 hits, and I didn't give a flying frick about Princess Di at all. But those were much bigger deals than this.

Either Prince or Anthony Bourdain.

Id have to say Bowie. That had EVERYONE upset - from the hobo hipsters in Bywater to the suits in the bank buildings.

It still amazes me fast n furious movies have gone on and people are still into the rice racing fad.
I'm kind of glad they've continued on, because anyone I know who has ever mentioned liking one of them is pretty much genuinely retarded.
Fast and Furious movies are an easy way to pick out the lowest forms of society.

MJ was the biggest, Elvis was next.

MJ was certainly the biggest celebrity to die suddenly; bigger than kobe, prince, diana, etc.
I think people are underestimating Kobe's international fame, but he's still a notch below MJ.

This is probably the biggest. Or at least the most shocking
Don't know the last time I was totally shocked at seeing something like I was today

Earnhardt was big, mostly because it was during the apex of nascar's popularity, and happened in their biggest event. Even casual fans at the time were watching the last few laps, so a ton of people saw it happen in real time.

Dale earnhardt sports wise
Except for the transplanted rednecks, very few north of the M-D line cared all that much. I'm not saying it wasn't/shouldn't have been a big deal for racing fans. IndyCar has lost a few great drivers (maimed quite a few as well) and they're all in the same basket. If not for Jr and watching NASCAR during its bubble in the mid- late 00s I wouldn't know much about Sr.
It's a regional thing much like Prince dying was just as shocking as Jackson.

Big black died?
Yeah, Baw. He went into semi-retirement to go back home and raise his kids. He did a few special appearances, but mostly just rode the pine. He had a massive heart attack.

Michael Jackson was the only death bigger in terms of international fame in modern times. Laughable that people think Dale Earnhardt was close to as famous as Kobe. And I say that a big Dale fan when I was a kid.
